My son was doing some homework on old toys and asked me about any toy I remembered. So I phoned my old man and asked him to bring my Scalectrix Blow-Out from 1983-84 round.

It is almost in perfect condition still with all the bits, however one of the cars isn't working as the wires have come out of the glide bit.

...and I cannot find anywhere local to try and repair it for me, so we can't race it.

Can anyone on here help?

The car in question is identical to this, which if it is cheap enough will be purchased - job done.

Post a pic please.
From memory, the two wires are the ones running from the motor to the brushes.
Should be straight forward enough to buy either a replacement brush set or perhaps bodge the damaged one.

Krhall if your on about the contact with the track you can get them from Modelzone (i think) and think they were connections on the back

The ends of the wires have a crimp on, push the pickup brush through the slot in the brush holder from the bottom and then push the crimped end of the wire into the elongated side of the slot on the upper side, this secures the brush in the holder.

The crimps have seemingly come off of the wires and I cannot find any in the box...

I get all the parts for mine from a company called "top slots and trains"
I'll second Ralph, just own up to playing with it as it's not a kids game anymore!
I've got about 250 feet of track in the spare room waiting for the winter to set in!

Seriously I forgot how much I loved it, I am bidding on two Leyland Roadtrain trucks from the 80's at the moment...

Must get some track too, the current stuff is tarnished, what can I use to clean it?

Most of my cars are scx rather than scalextric.

I've got 3 crates of spare track if you need any.

I wished I hadn't looked at this thread.

Its already set up.

Has just been used for a store room while I had fatty living with me.

Now I've booted her out, I can clear the crap out and get it going again for the winter beer and scalextrix nights :)

one of the very few things i remember about staying in Africa (Rhodesia) when i was a kid. the scalectrix track/club at my brothers school looked like the one in the vid. it was assume as a kid, they had loads of different cars which they made themselves.

What is the scale of the standard Scalextric stuff, which is "scalable", ie: it's not just one set in a box, you can buy more and more stuff and add to it later.

Don't want to buy any Mini or Micro stuff, I want the standard size.

Is it 1:32?

I love Scalextric but haven't had a go for years. Most distinctive thing about scalextric is the smell, it's great :)

Is it the old classic track stuff? We have just managed to fix the other car and had a brilliant morning, I was shouting more than my 6 year old!

1:32 sounds right from my memory of it. Mine all went last time I moved house - I got it down from the loft to check it out and saw the condition of all the track. Quietly put it back up in the loft, never to be seen again.

I miss it actually, Race Driver on the PS3 is just not the same

Yup. not into the digital stuff.

I just packed away all my track and cars into mums attic along with a load of other toys for safe keeping.

Turning the scalextric room into a home cinema/bedroom incase i have to let the house out.

We had 4 tracks and over 250ft of track that was given to my brother with 8 F1 cars and 2 racing minis. Really old track 70/80's he stuck iot in his loft then when he couldn't bothered cleaning it chucked it all out along with a load of my childhood books that he nicked. He's so not forgiven for that.
