Hi All,
I have posted a couple of times, I have now got my bike, done a 100+ miles today that includes riding it back from the store and then doing some practice.
I must say its a quality bike to ride, and looking forward to getting out on it more.
Thanks for all your help with every thing I asked so far.

Exactly how I feel about mine every time I get off it :D
One of the first things I did to mine was to grease the front spark plug cap, it's been out in the rain, mist and foggy drizzle with no misfires... Another was a good strip down of all the plastics to give the metal a helping of ACF-50
Enjoy it and relax is the best advice I can think of, at first I was tense and rigid on the bike and it caused wrist pain and some interesting cornering, Its coming together now though.
BTW fuel light flashing means 4 litres left, when it goes on constant you're down to 2 (mines never been that low while I've owned it)

Hi everyone. Thought I'd hijack this rather than post another 'newbie/first ride' topic. Picked my SV up on Thursday but haven't been out much yet cos I needed to get a 15k service, tax, Mot.. I just moved into a new house, no workshop yet and a lot of decorating to do so I took the bike to a local guru for the work. He says it's A1 mechanically so I lucked out after a bit of a gamble-buy.
So far I'm loving the bike, engine braking and eagerness will require more finesse to ride smoothly than my old 125. Sounds awesome with the aftermarket can... Couple of night rides show that the lights need some attention, and I've banged off the bottom of the forks a couple of times already. Also, as someone said earlier in this thread, I need to find a relaxed comfortable position.
Ok, that's me! I expect lots of questions to come as I get to grips with the new machine :)

Similar situation here. Passed my test a week ago and got myself a 2007 sv650s. Only had chance to take it out once in the last week but found it really nice to ride (and a bit quicker than the training school bikes)
I'm still a bit jerky so will try to get out and get a few more miles under my belt to smooth everything out.
Looking forward to it :)

The biggest thing is throttle control, I've had a few back end slides just from closing the throttle too quickly or mistiming a throttle blip on a down shift, these bikes force you to be smooth which I see as a good thing.

Loving this bike more and more as I get some miles under my belt. It's capable of more acceleration and speed than I know what to do with (so far!) but the thing I'm most impressed with compared to my 125 is how much control I feel I have just with little weight shifts. Plus the stability at speed is great. A little concered I may go deaf though.. Noise at around 50mph is crazy even with quality earplugs - doublebubble screen and loud can (tho it feels more like buffeting than engine noise)... Any suggestions there?

My earplugs are not the best but they cancel out loads of noise, are you fitting them properly? Rolling them down before you put them in?

The ones I'm using are the best foam ones I've found after much experimentation, though the pair I was using the other day were a bit old.. Pretty sure it's an airflow thing because it's very low-frequency and it changes as I move my head. May be time to try moulded plugs?

I am trying soft moulded ones and I have some other comming from an other place will post a update once I tried both.

Just a quick follow up to this one - I've had no problems since..must have been a duff earplug or had the visor fitted wrong or something.

I am getting a pair of custom plugs made now, like others said generic ones are cheap and cheerful for a reason.
On another note, I am starting to get use to the handling of the bike, and trying not to be wiped out by old people because they don't know what things that are bolted on the side of the doors is for but besides that its all groovy, its a bit cold, but still go out when I can.

Yeah, go careful Endo. To be fair, I hate driving a modern car because you feel so encased and remote from what's going on on the road.. Anyway, I'm used to dodging inattentive cagers; my biggest new enemy is my own stupidity. The SV is so much fun I keep getting home and telling myself off for doing stupid things, mostly related to acceleration and adrenalin...

Thanks mate, I have only had a few almost, but managed to realise what they where going to do and slow down and then beep my horn. Don't help having the standard can no one can hear me..

I've got a standard can on, and no-one has ever used the excuse they "couldn't hear" me. Sounds like you're looking for an excuse to buy and after market can!
lol.
I've said it loads before on other threads, people who aren't bikers or don't know bikers assume that bikes are "summer hazards" and therefore they don't look for you in rain, snow, ice or other poor conditions.
Ride like everyone is out to get you and you'll find these incidents become fewer and farther between as you become more adapt at spotting the people who are not being as observant as they could be.

Yeah I know, I am getting better at spotting things like you say comes with practice, and I do want a new can for sure. But funding has ran out until after xmas as the misses is doing her nut about me getting a bike and then all the little mods I want :D
Sounds like you need to be buying the misses an extra special gift this christmas then! lol
I just want my bike to run - that would be awesome. lol

Its nearly always bikers riding too fast, i have no more problems than any vehicle user. My friends get caught out all the time when i ride with them then have the audacity to blame the car drivers!
I find lorry drivers are the worst, they never fail to suprise me, using there size to intimidate.

I was in the bus lane which is allowed then out of no where a old person cuts two lanes and almost side sweeps me as they come into the bus lane to turn left no indicators, and after that I was in a 3 lane road I was in the middle to go straight some guy decided he wanted the slip road and almost side swapped me, I was doing the speed limits for the roads. So I am not going fast, its just blunt I am in a car, can be assed to use my mirrors or indicators!!! I am a ex Traffic Special Constable and I seen both sides with people riding like ***** at 90+ going between cars on A road and also I been in a Traffic car with Blues and Two's on and still people don't see you.

It's sad to say but you do get used to it, and as you have said it does not matter a damn what you are on or in...
Cage drivers who have never driven anything else and see the car only as a means of getting about are a liability on the road, I say this because I have been SMIDSY'd in one of these.....

She pulled out infront of me at dusk, so all interior lights, dipped headlights and displays were on... and they weigh 10 tons, they don't do ''it came out of nowhere'' like she told her insurance company... A copy of the forward facing CCTV's footage was sent and I have heard no more about it.
I've nearly had a pensioner do it to me on the SV, that day I decided the front brakes were awesome, if I had been on the CG125 with its front drum brake I would have head butted the old goat through his own window.
I was nice, pulled up next to him and tapped on his window and asked if I could have a polite word, apparently he was deaf and had a very stiff neck...
Although when car drivers are courteous they get a wave or thumbs up, no matter what I am driving or riding at the time, bikers don't seam to believe it at first when a bus gives way to them and the driver waves :D

the "sorry mate i didnt see you" can almost always be answered with.. well maybe if you try looking from now on it might work better... too many drivers go through the motions of moving their head but not actually looking, a car theyl see out of the corner of their eye but not a bike..
i bet you laughed in her face when she told you she "didnt see you" in a 10 tonne bus..
its a strange excuse anyway... i didnt see you.. therefore you must have been sneaking up on them deliberately. or riding along in harry potters invisibility cloak as apposed to sat on a luminus blue motorbike with its lights on and wearing a reflective blue and white jacket and a bright coloured helmet. all at the same time making unneccessarily (fun) levels of noise.
on another note its always good to thank a cager who gives your room. and to take pity on those that get utterly petrified when they see a bike behind them, when you go past give them miles of space and steadily accelerate away, coming screaming past will only make them freeze in fear and maybe cause an accident.
