View Full Version : MZ Baghira - Anyone had one?
Just want to see if anyone's got an opinion on these or if anyone has one lurking in their garage!
Tempted to swap my SV for something a bit more upright and a bit quirky. I've always wanted one and think they look pretty awesome once you get rid of the original exhaust which, is a bit of an acquired taste i think
Either that or a KTM Duke II, but i'm pretty sure the MZ's are a tad cheaper and seem indestructible too.
Can anyone shed some light on them for me?

I've worked on the Mastiff which is very much the same thing (styling differences only), yeah they are OK and you don't see many about,ok build quality but nothing special, nice WP rear shock but the bike is a bit heavy, don't pay a lot for one though, bit of a relaxed lump the 660 in comparison to the KTM evn if it's the newer fiver valve head, but it does the job, it's nothing like the KTM though, very much tortoise & hare, the KTM makes more power, weights less, turns better and revs easier, but saying that they are a good all round road bike for sub-90-100mph stuff.
Cheers Mark.
Have you considered a Husqvarna 610 SMS? I've always wanted one after having the 125 version and you can pick them up pretty cheap on eBay these days.

Theres a reason for that...
...they're absolutely bloody maniacal!! Getting the front up isn't a problem, its getting it down and keeping it down while trying to make it behave itself. A friend of mine had on as an enduro bike a year or two ago. He ended up getting rid of it. He reckoned it was nigh on unrideable on wet stuff. He was no slouch either, he was riding in the British Championship at the time.
Never really considered the Husky as i thought it's pretty much a race bike with road lights really, might be a little too focused for me!
And Mark, that's the kind of thing i was after, something good and fun sub-90mph but capable of being a good laugh still...I tend to get tempted into silly speeds sat in a sportier riding position and might be wise to give it a change soon ;)
Didn't MZ fold? What's the spares situation like?

My dads got one, 3 maybe 4 years old now, he rides it on wednesdays to avoid traffic getting to squash from work and then the odd weekend bimble.
Other than the battery/electrics been weak as feck he says its bullet proof. Good on tyres, good on pads easily servicable and just kinda bounced the day he got SMIDSY'd
He calls it his 2-wheeled-tank, not my cup of tea but he swears by it.

I'm not sure what the spares are like Sosha, but the engine is a Yamaha XT660 lump so parts would go from one to the other fairly easily i'd imagine?
Might have to be on the lookout to have a go on one i guess that's the only way to tell. And find if i have to be on tiptoes whilst sitting at traffic lights... ;)
I'm seeing a lot of Honda FMX650's going cheap at the moment. A softer supermoto in road manners, but tough as old boots when it comes to build quality.

Yeah, saw one of these at Seaways last weekend, looks really nice, the guy loved it, gets 80 mpg when riding steadily and does around a ton (on private roads) This ones a Skorpion but still has the 660 Yamaha engine, would quite fancy a go! the guy was drooling over the SV, looks comfier than mine though!

Skorpion is an old man's bike :puker:

I like them once you get rid of that original exhaust, maybe add some handguards too.
Darn sight better than the Skorpion :p
with an M4 looks the biz.

IMO:
Remove - mirrors, snow plough, Can and the stickers
Install - Slicker tyres, stubby can (in same place as original rather than up like the M4 in the pic) and hand guards.
Then it looks nice.

just a couple of points, 48 bhp, 175kg dry, it's slightly heavier than the XT660X it gets it's engine from, if you're interested in that kind of thing the XT's not a bad bike or try the mastiff version, basically the same but with colour and twin round headlamps.
Cheers Mark.
