Has anyone on the forum upgraded from an XR1000 to an XR1100 lid. The reason I ask is because I have an XR1000 and its about due to be renewed as its been around a while. Just wondered what the benefits are, because people say it is an improvement, but never actually say why?

I'm about to take the plunge on one, as per this thread-

Reports are that the 1100 corrects all the faults of the 1000.
My Bro's got one- upgraded from a Nitro lid and said it's a fantastic lid- very, very quiet.

Yeah I have already read that, but what are these faults?
I've done a big post on it somewhere... Quick summary...
The xr1100 visor is alot bigger than the xr1000 so gives much better vision.
The xr1100 has a self sealing visor (very effective) this gives a great seal and significantly reduces wind noise of the xr1000.
The chin strap is better and easy to use.
The ventilation is immense.
The bigger visor also comes with the massive pinlock which covers the whole visor, on the xr1000 if you got your head down the top of the pinlock is right in you line of sight.
I'm sure there was more but I can't remember.
Yeah I have already read that, but what are these faults?
The only faults that I can think of are as a result of the fantastic ventilation. If it's anything more than spitting, the chin vent will let in the rain. If you are travelling at speeds of over say 40 mph this will result in the inside of the visor being splattered with water  Very annoying.
Apart from that, top lid.

XR1100 awesome lid. Have raced in the XR1000 and the XR1100 is a big step up in terms of fit, noise (is quieter), ventelation, visor etc. I also have the new X-Spirit which is very good.
If you want a good deal on the XR1100 drop me a PM as can sort a decent Org deal.
They have got a different fit though so I'd strongly advise tring one for size.

Arrrh right. Good call I was just assuming that they would be the same as an XR1000.
Thanks for that.

I have 2 old X-Spirits and I love them! By the the comfiest and best fitted helmet I have tried. Really like the idea of the wider vision on the X-Spirit II but at just over $1000 a pop here, I'll think I'll have to wait until these are going to be retired.
I know you were talking about the XR1000 -> XR1100, but I found when I tried the XR1000 back to back with the X-Spirit, the fit and fell was that much better, so don't rule it out :)

Have a look at a Qwest also? Seem to remember reading a review a while back in one of the mags that said it was quiet, comfy etc, but it all depends on the shape of your head I guess.
I like my XR1000, but the ventilation in the summer is definitely feeble, if the XR1100 improves on that it will be on my 'look at' list come replacement time. Good luck finding a suitable lid.

The ventilation on th xr1100 is awesome, as pauses has said though, the front vent by the chin is excessive, anything over 30mph and it gets hard to keep your eyes open. Demists very quickly though.

I agree on the fit. Tried on both at BMF and the XR1000 was an excellent fit, the XR1100 with a firm push to the back of the neck almost tipped right off. Felt like a totally different shape.

I have the XR1100 and really like it - I had a raid 2 before so I knew that Shoeis fit my head. The ventilation is epic, goes from zero (with the visor locked shut) to wind in the hair, almost too cold even on a hot day. Never had a lid before where you had to close vents cos there's too much air in there. Looks great, feels very high quality. I find the aperture still restricts my vision a little when I glance left or right, and while the pinlock is great they do scratch easily and give a little ghosting in the dark. It's not particularly quiet IMO, no quieter than any other helmet I've ever tried. But I don't regret the expense, well worth it I think.

Speaking of expense, compared to other top of the line lids- Shark in particular, that Tippetts had in stock, it didn't seem too bad- the top Shark lids are around £450.
