Ive been riding for just over a year now and have an sv650 sport sk8. I have done a few track days and am thinking about upgrading my chain and sprocket set. Planing to do loads of track days in the new year just wanted some advice on the best set to get for that type of riding.

I wouldn't bother changing until your original chain is worn out and definately not until the spring if you are doing any winter riding. The standard chains are high quality. When you do replace just make sure you use a qulity brand - I'm a DID fan myself but I'm sure you will get other recomendations from the forum.

As Ned no point until its needed.

But a racing chain is not suited to prolonged road use as there is no washers like in a O ring and X ring chain.

Again everyone has preference, mine DID as thats whats on the bike atm.

am thinking about upgrading my chain and sprocket set.

What do you think that upgrading is going to give you ? As per the others if your chain and sprocket isnt worn out then I wouldnt bother to replace them.

Unless you want to change the gearing ?

IMHO if you havent already, you'd be better off looking at some suspension work ( front forks maybe a rear shock ) that will give you bigger rewards than bolting a set of shiney bling sprockets onto your bike.

520 conversion with heavy Duty chain (not X or O ring) one tooth off the front is my preference for most tracks but others prefer 2 off the back. If your using heavy duty chain on the road you need to keep care of it but I have used them in the past on the road.

Heavy duty chains are cheaper than x / o ring chain Iris do a good gold one.

Both 520 and using standard chain will give you a little more horsepower to the rear wheel due to less rolling resistance, less weight and more direct connection due to having no o / x rollers.

B+C do a renthal superlight 520 14 tooth front sprocket for the SV but its not listed in their SV bits just ring them and ask (I think its a GSXR item)

Aint 520 pitch easier to snap if not properly adjusted? (To clarify SV's use a 525 pitch chain stock)
You tried running a HD/ Race chain on the road, I thought they siezied up with road crap?

Renthal do a ultra light 14T for the 520, and I 525's I'm not to sure. Barwel runs a ultralight so should be able to clarify

Iris do a good one.

In my experience they f***ing well don't. Some of worst crap on meerkat.

Buy tsubaki or DID, only ones I would touch. I use tsubaki.

Been using Iris for years but I do get them at cost, never had a issue nor have most of the club racers that use them either.

No 520's dont snap especially with 70hp going through them.

Yes as I said if you are going to use a Heavy Duty standard chain on the road look after it.

I don't know about the standard ones, but their O and X ring ones are mince.
Case of false economy for road use, you pay 1/3rd less and get less than half of mileage. I got over 30k out of a tsubaki sigma O ring chain.

Standard chains aren't too bad for maintenance, can you still get that grease that you boil in a pot?

Similar, I think the white stuff is just white grease with a bit of sticky in it. You could try mix some chainsaw oil with white grease.

Castrol racing lube is nearly as good, scottoiler is better.

my last renthal set told you to, then use propper chain lube not spray can crap

have castrol racing stuff so might as well stick with that

my tsubaki box/instructions said to leave it on, suppose different manufacturers are always going to say different things

This is meant to be very similar to the white grease, I know it does last 600 miles+ between applications
