Has anyone fitted a Venhill quick action throttle to an sv650s? I have an 06 model race bike and have ordered the universal, single cable quick action throttle from Venhill. I have removed the airbox but it is still very tight for space to get at the cable connections at the carb end. Does anyone know if its possible to fit the cable like this or do the carbs have to come out? Looking at the manual, its a beast of a job to get the carbs off (lots of sensors and whatnot) so I don't really want to do this unless I have to. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I fitted mine without taking anything major off (I think I lifted the tank and airbox off but that was about it) - it was a bit of a faff messing around with long nose pliers, etc. but it all seemed to fit ok. I had to remove the switch gear from the right clip on to get the throttle assembly on properly - if you've not done that then I could se the cables not reaching...

Thanks Dave. I was planning on moving the start/kill button onto the left bar. I notice you say 'cables' in your post, does your QA throttle have 2 cables? The one I have on order is a single cable jobby but I'm sure I've seen one fitted with a single cable in the paddock at Aintree. I shall give it a go when the thing arrives and the garage warms up a bit!

It lowers the amount you need to twist the throttle tube for a given amount of throttle eg. a standard throttle (tube) you might have to twist 90 degrees for 100% throttle (until you hit the stop) but a quick action one might only need you to twist it 75 degrees.

Some people swear by them improving their riding experience.

yeh R6 throttle tube does that (ish) but you have to cut with a S model un like the nakeds :D

Ahh okay, thanks monkey. You are answering all my noob questions : )
My aerox could twist about 3cm for full throttle (58mph).
CBF could go as far as the SV though.

Hi thmjo1 (http://forums.sv650.org/member.php?u=13336), mine's only got the one cable. Good bit of kit and never had any problems with it. Have crashed it a fair few times too and venhill are really good at sending out replacement parts quickly.

"Some people swear by them improving their riding experience."

They're useful on racebikes as it stops you either having to let go and retwist the throttle or hold your arm and wrist down and at a weird angle to get and hold full throttle.

Yeah, im sure you wouldnt want it on a bike for commuting, clutch control being a pain if you have to be UBER delicate : )

perfectly fine if your throttle control is tiptop

but half the people riding an sv are new and wont have learnt that throttle control. they arnt the most powerful of bikes but i bet they can get away from some people if they arnt careful, a QAT will just make that worse.

to those that are putting one on for the first time.. enjoy it but watch out for having to pay attention to your right hand more (not something most of us should have a problem with im sure [-X )

id agree its more snatch'y and not good for this weather but its not that severe that you have to think about it all the time, at the end of the day you get used to it, makes traffic light GP fun though as you power wheelie away from the lights

severe enough for newbie riders.. especially if they dont want to powe wheely into double decker busses... on an off note (seeing as somebody finally brought this up) i noticed the hazards came on mine breifly as i..uh the wind caught the front off my bike and made it wheely.. does anyone know if thats normal. not seen a mention of it here, and it could possibly be my imagination as it was out the corner of my eye.

i wasnt up for more than a split second so i know its not oil starvation.

Bradders, I got mine direct from Venhill, just ordered it online. I went for the universal one which means you have to make up the cable yourself but they provide all the bits you need. Haven't fitted it yet, probably do it next week so I'll let you know how it goes.

the standard sv cable might work before you go making new ones :)

Got the QA throttle on last night, took about 2 hours. Spent most of the time trying to locate the cable nipple in the cam at the carb end......very frustrating! Once this was done though things were pretty straightforward even with having to cut the cable inner and outer to length and solder a new nipple at the bar end. Unfortunately, I can't road test the throttle till next season or when the snow and ice bugger off and I can have an illegal pottle around the cul de sac!
Thanks for all your help and advice.

Now you just mentioned the QA throttle going to the carbs ^^^, whats different if you do it on a fuel injected bike?

thmjo1

My bike is an 06 injected model. When I say carbs I mean the bits under the airbox where the carbs would sit on a carbed model, if you see what I mean!!

OK which throttle set do i need to order for a 2001 i can see Venhill have a quick action throttle (126386 TWISTGRIP QUICK ACTION 314.22 KSZ/SZ) and then they have the (U01-4-500A FAST ACTION TWISTGRIP CONVERSION)

Don't want to get the wrong one.

I used the universal type and it was fairly straight forward to fit if a bit fiddly! Can't comment on the other sort.
