Well, after doing all my home office work I'm now going out.

Two of my engineers braved the weather on Monday and drove from Manchester to Edinburgh. I'd prmoised them weeks ago that if they went up there for a week's work I would join them and buy them the best meal/drinks/night out that Edinburgh could provide.

Soooooo, I guess I'll dig out the crampons, the vac flask and the St Bernard and head for the frozen further norf, leaving the frozen norf east behind.

You're not going to get to Edinburgh

The M8 is shut. The M9 is about to follow suit. The back roads are not passable.

LOL, I think I'll just stick with taking the dog to school to pick up number one son. Two birds one stone. Just got a text to say parents evening is cancelled and as the buses have stopped it may be wise to pick up the kids.....

....don't panic, its only white stuff!

However yesterday, Bradford council did a faux pas, and forgot to grit one of the busiest stretches of the A58 from Hx to the M62.
Three hrs to go half a mile. Foook that, !!

Trains are severely disrupted, and probably wont get you to Edinburgh.

Stay home.

Was just going to say, it's not that bad down here but mates in Edinburgh & Glasgow tell me they've got 10-12 inches of snow up there and it's still coming down!

If I were you Bri, I'd phone a bar and stick a few quid on a tab for the lads if they venture out tonight!

Yup - I'm in Grangemouth and we have over a foot of snow. There's been a blizzard blowing for the last hour too.

I'd put money on their hotel tab too... no point in trying to get here you're just going to get stuck on a train for hours. Forth Road Bridge is shut for the first time in history due to snow. Trains are all running reduced services if they turn up at all.

It is indeed only weather, but travelling in it when you don't really need to is pretty irresponsible, as it not only puts yourself at risk, but it also puts others needlessly at risk.

Just checked on the train website. My train is running, and is on time.

I doubt we'll get out on the town but the bar will take a wee hammering

Some pictures from Edinburgh on Monday, and I've heard it's got worse since then. I wouldn't bother.

Fair enough. I don't really know the area other than to jump in a cab at the airport and say "Lonehead Road please".

I would have hoped my comment on the weather would have been taken with the same jest of use a microlight.

We'll grab a beer, or eleven, soon Lance.

As to getting to Edinburgh... no it didn't happen.

Got to Darlington alright, and the departure board was still saying leaving on time. At 15:28 when it was due in it disappeared from the board. No announcement nor nowt. Spoke to the station's version of John Cleese (you've got to go there just to see him) who definitely was a few light in the marbles dept. As my ticket was an advance purchase I couldn't use it for another 2 hours. Train to Redcar and a 2 mile trudge through the snow.
