Would this size of bike fit in the boot of a golf hatchback if I took out the back seats and maybe took the wheels off the bike?

Laid on its side, yes more than likely they will.
I have had a set of ladders in my old golf with the boot shut, they are surprisingly roomy with the rear seats down.

I got a DT175 without wheels and forks in the back of my A class with the rear seat down.

yup
you can get a crf in the boot without the wheels so a trials bike should be no problem.

If you have a towball, try these guys :- www.autowbars.co.uk (http://www.autowbars.co.uk)

It makes transporting much easier.

Brilliant cheers guys :)

A trailer and towbar is too much hassle. I'd need to sit the trailer test, get a towbar fitted, and I don't really have anywhere to keep the trailer

If you have towbar you can get some brilliant racks that go on the towball mount. I've got one from early 90s, cliponoff or something random like that

I've got one I've used on 3 different cars now.

Takes my 520 no problems and just throw a lighting board on it and away you go.
better than a trailer in every way.

They do look very handy indeedy but i just cant bring myself to trusting one carrying my pride and joy on the back of my new van, im just too much of a fairy even tho it would save me a lorra bucks. (compared to buying meself a trailer) I finks me bike is 119KGs dry, so add fuel/coolant its gotta be close to the max limit of 150KGs

Convince me slowplay!

I cant even find myself a nice enuff looking trailer facrissakes!!! Everytime i see one i think to meself 'cheap sh1te'

As for the OP, it'll fit easy. But whats a trailer test?

speedplay
06-12-10, 07:35 PM
Ok, Ive had mine on there in excess of ***mph with both the 200 and 520.

I've used it as well as towing a trailor with 2 other bikes on too with no problems.

I've never damaged the bike or car and have even towed other cars out muddy fields with the freelander while the bikes been on the back :)

And if you want a nice trailer...

theres a folding one on autowbars site ;)

I passed my driving test after 1997 so have to do an extra trailer test before I can use one

They do have some nice trailers on there that would take the trumpet if i needed, and for a fair price too. Shame the company is the other side of the country tho

Not sure where u are but there is a really good tow bar place in Birmingham on kingstanding road. Don't ask me what it's called now but I could walk down the road and find the number in the morning.

yep - Towsure is the one. I have passed it nearly everyday on the way to work. Also all of my dads cars have had the towbars fitted there and they havent fallen off or anything.

Could you use one of those things to carry an SV on the back of a Honda accord Estate? if it had a tow bar fitted?

Be cheaper than hiring a van, plus you've something to show for it at the end.

Pretty sure thats not the case if you just want to tow a bike trailer. See here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/CaravansTrailersCommercialVehicles/DG_10013073

so as long as what you're towing doesnt weigh more than the vehicle you're using to tow it then you're fine on just a cat B licence... Did I read that right?

Something like that. I just looked at this bit:

"Category B vehicles may be coupled with a trailer up to 750kgs MAM"

And thought a bike trailer isn't likely to get over 750kgs, not towing a sports bike anyway. So you should be fine with just cat B.

I hope i'm right otherwise i've been towing my track bike around illegally for 2 years...

I would think that will exceed the capability of the tow bar to support the weight. These tow-bar mounted carriers are all very well for push-bikes but are a little sketchy IMO for heavier items. A tow bar is designed to PULL not LIFT, so may not be happy with a heavy weight on it. Most tow hitches specify a nose weight (downward force on tow ball) of 50-75KGs, so putting a 160KG SV on ther might not be such a great idea...

I had a read of that but wasn't really sure if I was understanding it right. And wasn't sure how much the trailer would weigh

Daz i would speak to one of the firms that offers the B+E training they should be able to advise.

This is off one of my local firms make more sense than the direct.gov

Did you know, that if you intend to tow a Trailer or Caravan over 750kgs, and you passed your Category B (Car) driving test on or after 01 January 1997, then you may need to pass a further driving test to obtain the Category B+E (Car and Trailer) entitlement.
