Not that you'd want to pick him up in the Landy or anything of course!
haha, I've offered to go get him, but the problem is where's he is he can't abandon the car. but the roads aren't too bad with snow, it's just lorries and police have blocked all the routes and I couldnt get back with him any quicker!
I'm raging, I've got this great vehicle to go play in the snow, but all the roads round me and blocked with cars I can't go anywhere without it taking hours! rubbish!
for a look at road conditions on live cameras:

it's crazy, I spoke to some lorry drivers near me when I got home and they said they've been driving for 5+ hrs and have travelled from stirling to denny, journey of just over 10miles and should take 15mins tops! glad I'm tucked up in bed!

Yep. It is really bad. Getting fed up with it all now.
Snow days are a real drag.
Main problem this morning was everyone (who had not been out last week) decided it was such a nice day they would go to work for a change and got a nasty shock a short distance into their journey when it started to snow, again  Had they done what they did last week, went home and used public transport (yeah I know thats throwing the dice as well) there wouldn't have been so many cars abandoned at the side of the road stopping other stuff moving.
2 hours to get into work and then 3 hours to get back
We want heavy rain to wash all this carp away ;)
It was wild today. Of all the days of snow we've had so far, this was the worse for driving. It was ice, with a layer of water over it then about 8 inches of snow. Nice!
I went to the beach in Musselburgh and the whole beach, rocks and rock pools were all covered with 8" snow at low tide! It takes some snow to cover salt water rock pools! About a mile from here there's over a meter now and the council are taking it away in trucks.
and I still haven't got stuck or not got to where I was going yet. :)

Wow... I really hope this weather clears up for you guys soon, as much as I love the snow it`s obv caused chaos up there. I feel for the people stuck in it and I seriously hope it clears up for my son to come home from Aberdeen in a couple of weeks.
Take care everyone

Gaffer phoned me this morning-left work at 14.00 yesterday , got in at 07:30 this morning-WTF:(
I can move in the landy but due to the other cars blocking the roads i'm going nowhere-day in the house with the mrs:(
Took me 5.5 hours to go 16 miles yesterday most of it because of the A80.
Cumbernauld is sheet ice everywhere as we couldn't get the gritters out becuase of the traffic. They had guys scraping the roads at 1am!!
Thnakfully the Merc seems great in snow had no probelms yet!
feel for you lot. My mum is stuck in the house, luckily she has a full freezer and plenty of long life milk and coffee.

Closed my place at 11am (1500 folk) yesterday unfortunately I had to wait till 1pm. Total gridlock by then.
Got home at 5.15pm. Normally 30-40 mins. Don't think i drove on tarmac the whole way. Hard packed snow or 2" thick ice. Felt like the tyres were flat on the rutted ice. My missus saw a madman out and about in East Kilbride on his CG125. Says she see's the old dude everyday.
Sick of ****** 4x4 drivers up ma chuff (ignorant fools) and pushing BM's up the smallest of slopes.
-8 in the town this morning. I'm dreading the fast melt at the end of the week!

Last night was a bit of an eye opener for me-cars abandonded everywhere , people walking in all lanes on the motorway looking totally bewildered, a total breakdown in the normal running of things-reminded me of the scene in "Day after tomorrow" when everyone is trying to get away-just shows how poorly we are prepared for any major global weather event-i'm gonna get stuff stashed for this in the future.
Major disapointment last night was two coppers sitting in there car while five trucks took turns trying to get up a dual carriageway hill for over an hour blocking everyone else when they had no chance of getting up-coppers should have got out and said enough is enough, pull over and let the cars by-traffic was tailed back for miles due to this.

Sounds horrendous up there, too cold to be getting stuck about in traffic :-( Hope it clears up soon enough and there's enough grit about to do it!

That's IT, get out Dave, we'll be having no text speak in here if you please :-P

I couldn't believe on the news last night the amount of irresponsible people that had phoned in to complain about being stuck in the traffic.
All day the reports said to only travel if absolutely necessary but one woman had been stuck in traffic for 5 hours and had her 3 year old child in the car and they didn't have any food. WTF!!! Why did she go out in the car in the first place knowing the roads were so bad and why didn't she take any food in her car with her just in case!!!!
i dont understand that when in these sort of emergency situations that the Army is not called out to help.
ooohhh wait i forgot they are all away on foreign soil peace keeping.

I'm with appollo1 on this,
While i may disregard the no travel advice, I do it under my own power, i.e. my legs. I tend to find your own legs, with a decent pair of boots on will get you places faster than most things with an engine in it in this weather.
As for traffic, I live on a 0.75mile long, reasonably steep hill. Why in your mind would you believe that your two wheel drive hatchback could deal with that, when its 12 inches deep in snow? The result is, theres between 25 to 30 cars abandoned at the bottom of the road, parked in any manner, so last night when a plough finally got to the village, it went down the hill, stopped as it couldn't pass through the abandoned cars, and reverse back up the hill. Credit to the plough driver for coming out and trying, but i'm afraid our "i'll go off-roading in my fiesta" drivers have ruined it for everyone :p.
As a result, 24 hours on, the road still isn't clear, a handful of cars have been removed from the bottom and I can only presume the plough will try again tonight!

hindsights a great thing , what about the people who had to collect from schools and nurseries?-my mrs called the school to say she was coming to collect our oldest and that was before the school made the decision to close-took my nephews over four hours to walk home from school-the blame for this lies at the feet of the councils who have been scrimping on the gritters and salt due to cuts-we could see this coming for ages and i recon it'll happen again before this winters out
I can understand why people DO travel in these conditions, but if you do choose to go out you only have yourself to blame if you get stuck.
It's quite easy to only make essential journeys.
The decision as to what is "essential" however is not quite so easy. Some will think getting to work is "essential" other will be able to work from home, others are just determined to prove a point that the snow "wont stop them".
And that's when chaos like we saw on Monday happens.
I took my car out today to go to Asda as I was getting shopping for myself my, neighbours and my folks. The number of idiots who think their 4x4 makes them invincible is shocking, I helped dig out two in the Asda car park.
People can lose sight of safety in this weather, if you dont know how to drive in it, or aren't prepared for it, don't go out in it, don't try and be a hero.

the missus got to work yesterday for the first time in a week, by 11am she was calling me to say they were heading home. I told her no, get a hotel and stay put. She did and got home tonight in much better conditions, still a 2.5 hr journey for 40 miles. Her colleague who stays 5 miles from us decide to travel home, left the center of edinburgh at 11am, took 3.5hrs to get to newbridge roundabout (5 miles apx) then got stuck on the m876 all night, got home at 7:30 this morning.
if you MUST travel, be prepared folks and drive safe.
I walked a 5 mile round trip to get shopping today for myself and elderly neighbours, really not worth risking the car for that distance.

I had a nightmare journey home yesterday. Left my work just near the Raddison at 130pm and got home at 8pm. The worst conditions I have ever seen in my life. Ended up coming back through Rutherglen and people were sliding backwards down hills. Few very scary moments when I had absolutely no control of my car, but I can tell you the Ford Focus handles snow better than an awful lot of other cars.
Today I didn't make it in to work as the car was stuck on the drive. Nightmare as I'm self employed. Going to have to try tomorrow but it's -12 just now so the roads aren't likely to be any better.
On the plus side, I work in a complaints department for a car insurer just now so there's a high likelihood my contract will get extended....
I was surprised to see the East European dudes at the hand car wash in Ayr setting up this morning. I passed again at three o'clock and they were still washing cars (on their own specially created ice rink). =D>

Just thought I'd let you know that we have hardly any snow....!!!
On the downside, we are running out of fuel and there is no milk or bread in the shops because none of the deliveries from Glasgow and Edinburgh can get here!

you need to stop feeding me these lines-i'm chewing on my lip here after that last one:D
well well the gritter has just gone down my street which means that they have done all the major routes. congratulations fife council.
seen them all rushing down the town centre including the pavement gritters at about 4pm when i was at the doctors. so most of kirkcaldy must have been gritted by now.
Perhaps they might like to come down here as Shropshire Council can't cope. -13C as I type this.
