Not sure if this is any use as I have never tried them on a SV but I like EBC pads personally.

EBC fronts are around £40 for the sport type (HH Sintered) or about £33 for road (OE replacement) type
Goldfren HH pads are cheap. I found them an improvement on standard pads.
Plenty on ebay.
I've got EBC GG type (road, OE) on the rear, and HH type on the front of my (01) and I'm very pleased with them, they give a good bite. Can't compare them to much though because this is my first proper bike.

Aye - I dont even know what type of pads I have on mine, but judging from my caliper overhaul I reckon I have a 2-3k left before they'll need doing.
Much difference between HH and OE for road riding?

HH pads give better bite IMO.

Is there a way I can tell which I have at the mo?
Any downside?
More abrasive (hence the better performance) so could wear the discs quicker than normal pads, but not by much I wouldn't have thought.

What colour are the backing plates on the pads, quite often HH pads have copper colour backing plates, GG have black.
Not sure if all HH pads are like this though.
Either way, should have HH or GG printed on the backing plate.

Aha, seems I already have HH anyways (rear). CBA to look at the fronts, they are back on the bike!
"EBC FA63 Double H C"
I opted for GG's on the rear - More feel to prevent rear wheel lock up, less disc wear and cheaper to buy. Do you know if you can get brembo pads for the curvy Barwel?

+1
And I have cheap normal ones on the rear.
And coincidentally (honestly) I have some brand new EBC HH fronts pads for sale.
I have just called Suzuki after having an advisory for front brakes on the MOT and a track day in a fortnight.
Suzuki offer Double 8 (what I thought she said, but looking at this could have been HH) pads for £60 (not sure if this includes VAT) and standards for £42. Presumably standards are ok for an occasional track day use? Are HH too harsh for road riding?
Can anyone offer an alternative place for buying brake pads as I see from the previous post that EBC fronts are around £40/33?

EBC are cheaper and the standards are better than OEM
Sounds good and I've just found them on here http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/Suzuki/SV_650_SK1_SK2_SX_SY/99-02/ - thanks!
Any thoughts on the pros and cons of HH vs GG?

AFAIK, HH offer more bite, which is definately something you'd want on the front, esp for track.
Some prefer GG on the back which offer less bite but more feel, and therefore less likely to lock up the rear.
Standard pads are GG type, I've used them on track and they were fine.
For what it's worth I'm using EBC HH at the front, and GG on the rear and think that works quite nicely.

I put HH in the front and am considering going back to the OE - the HH work well once hot, so if you're riding like a loon and constantly braking hard then they're great, that's why they are a 'sports' i.e. track biased pad. However, I find under normal road conditions they don't get hot so the first application lacks bite.

i kinda agree, with mine if i brake then brake again it all most throws me over the bars and thats with minimal effort but if i just brake once it dosn't bite half as much

So wouldn't you be better with a pad that's consistent? In an emergency will you remember when you last used the brake and whether it will bite hard or not much? That's why I'm going back to the organic pads.
Thanks guys, plenty of food for thought. My local dealer, Aye Gee Suzuki have said it's £41.98 inc. VAT for EBC standard front pads which I think works out cheaper than wemoto after postage. I think I'm veering towards the standard pads as I ride on the road really sedately, and not a lot faster on track!

Make sure you post how you find them compared to the HH. I'm definitely thinking the same thing; I can pretty much ride enthusiastically using just engine braking until some twonk in a car does something stupid, at which point I don't want to have to warm the brakes up a bit first!
I've got original pads in at the moment Tim, so I'll see how the EBC standards are. I like the sound of HH, but only for track and I won't be doing enough of that to warrant having them in full time. I'm the same, don't use too much brakes unless I need to stop sharpish!
