ok i was having a look at my mates fancy new bike at the weekend and we noticed that when you lift it off the ground (forks uncompressed) and measured from the bottom edge to the bottom yoke there was 5mm difference (left side longer) would this effect the bike at all? and what could cause it (manufacturing?) the bike rides fine and doesnt pull either direction and they dont stick.
sooo anything to worry about?

cant you drop them off and strip them down ?
personally i wouldn't want one fork longer than the other

What bike is it? I'm pretty sure that some of the new sporty bikes have different forks L/R, one takes care of the damping and the other takes care of the spring rate (I think). Maybe the forks are design to be different if so?

Top of the yokes to top of forks is the same.

Oh ok, I thought it was a NEW bike, not 'new to them'. Old fork oil gumming the works up then!

Either you measured wrong or there is a problem in fork.
Something in top out could be loose. You;d likely lose a lot of oil if they top-out same as GSXR ones and bolt was loose, but cartridge could be loose from cap if they top out like USD ones.
But, 5mm is a lot of flex in wheel spindle if something is wrong.
Measure again but to center of wheel spindle.

good point it seems quite a lot doesnt it. 2 people measured it and got the same results. But as you say would it actually be able to rock over that much (spindle) guess it would as its floating on the forks i guess.
Yep, measure to the centre of the the spindle. The fork bottoms could be different on each side.
