The Americans have a slightly lower level of taxation than us,but have absolutely zero tolerance for white collar crime like this.

I don't think it's harsh. We always moan that benefit frauds don't get treated harshly enough...this is a man with substantial wealth who has chosen to evade paying taxes when millions on pitiful wages do.

They've made an example of him....good!

Guess you're right though as well G in that he wont do it again.

It perhaps was a bit greedy of him.

He won't do all that time, which is why it's good that it's 3 years. It means the actual time he serves will not be a kick in the guts to decent tax payers. He'll also be in a nice cushy minimum security prison, not with nasties...just with other fraudsters and dodgers.

I think, once caught, he offered to pay several million dollars as part payment. Obviously too late. Someones B1tch for a couple of years me thinks.

Ouch.

One of my relatives got caught for tax evasion. Couldn't pay it out of offshore funds without those funds being exposed, so he sold his six bedroom house and paid the bill and they let him off without legal action. So three years in jail does seem harsh.
