I had to explain to my work colleagues recently that as a dedicated Atheist, my celebrating Christmas would be an act of hypocrisy. No, I did not want to buy some one I did not know a present, I work for a charity, I pay into two other worthwhile charities and I give up my free time to help people, I do not need a religion to be a good person. Also, I did not spend all of that time studying Science in two universities to put my faith in the super natural. As such I will not be celebrating Christmas, The Saturnalia, Makar Sankranti, Maghi or any other religious festival.
So yeah Bah Feckin Humbug...

The Bah Humbug Song
Chipmunks roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at the gin
Yuletide Muzak drives shoppers insane
as people hustle in the din
All your kith and kin at once
can be a frightening thought
Well, if they're anything like mine
Tiny tots wonder what Santa brought
No matter what they got, they whine
We know that New Year's is on it's way
With all those charge bills from December left to pay
And each department store is going to cheer
'Cause we'll be desperate again late next year
And so I'm offering a prayer here
to stores from Macy's to Walgreen's
When you put up those dumb decorations next year,
can't you wait 'til after after Halloween?
Happy valentines day
Ste.

Na man, I am looking forward to meeting up with the family and spending a few days with them.
I got a bit non plussed with christmas over the last few years but heard summat on the radio where the presenter said the same to the lapland father christmas. His reply was 'well son, Christmas isn't about you'
Kinda made sense to me so this year been more cheery about it and apart from the commercial aspect of it, it's been nice.

Oh,is it that time of year again?
Love it!
From the first Coke advert with Santa driving his truck. Love the cheesy old Xmas records. Love the champagne on Xmas Eve night, the Bacardi the gets opened on Xmas morning, the wine with lunch, the whisky for the Queen's speech, the sherry at tea time & the JD night cap. Love the lager before going to the match on Boxing Day, the pint at half time, the pint at the post match post mortum.
Not sure I enjoy the few days in Gazza's company at the Priory Clinic

Maybe for some people it`s having children that makes Christmas such a special time of year?
A young childs excitement around Christmas time is so infectious... their belief in Santa Claus, your attendance at their nativity plays at which point you burst into tears of pride at seeing your child parading around wearing a tea towel on his head! sprinkling talcum powder up the stairs then putting footprints in it to convince them that yes, Santa Claus really did walk up our stairs. Being woken at 5am with "has he been yet", trying to persauade them to go back to bed for an hour then giving in as they`re so excited.
My son might be grown up now but I`m so grateful to have those happy memories of his childhood and that`s what makes me look forward to xmas each year as it`s a time of remembering and it`s those happy memories that keep the tradition of christmas well and truly alive for me year after year.

hah bumhug
Let's face it. Christmas is for the kids. Those without kids have no scope of it and the joy that Christmas brings to the children which in turn brings joy to you.
Last year was probably the worst Christmas I have ever had. I didn't get to share it with my children and it was terrible. After going through the courts to make sure this didn't happen again, I have been waiting for it so bad. For me Christmas starts tonight at 7pm when I pick the kids up from thier mum. (Snow, and road conditions pending [-o<) This is going to be the best Christmas ever. :rendeer::santa:
12 days off work :smt015.
Lots of yummy food :chef:.
Me likey.
(Not really bothered about the rest of it).
I'd rather be working and earning, leaving me to take my holidays when the sun is shining.

A vodka is not just for christmas its for life
I'd rather be working and earning, leaving me to take my holidays when the sun is shining.
I have 25 days annual holidays and have been forced to take 8 of them over Christmas and New Year. Only found out a month ago and only had two days left for the year. I have had to take 6 days from next years entitlement leaving me with only 19 days for next year. Of those days I will be forced to save some for the same Christmas/New Year period. Time off work is going to have to be very calculated, especially when I have to take 15 days over the school summer holidays.

I am feeling rather non festive this year, just going through the motions for the sake of the kids. Christmas has come at a most inconvenient time!
I was almost feeling festive, then came along a nasty lump to chew on, and its put it further down on the agenda....be different next week when I've had a few drinks!

christmas was a miserable time for me as a kid, parents fighting etc. therefore I ferkin hate it. I hate the commercialism and people feeling obliged to go into debt to buy their little darlings the must have gismo.
My wife and eldest love it and go over the top. I just sit there in my black Bah humbug hat and absorb the christmas spirit.

Ahh, the bah humbug I hate Christmas thread, always a winner :smt039
Nice to know it's not just me thats dislikes Christmas. Really struggle to put my 'happy face' on for the kids. But I do make an effort and everyone seems to enjoy it.
If i make it to Boxing Day without murdering my Mum it'll be a miracle!:smt071

"do you believe"
In santa clause, yes, I Believe ;)
I like Christmas, me. Not all the commercial drivel but Christmas.
+1 ...As to all the commercial bull... HUMBUG!!!!!
I love to see the happy children's faces and all the effort parents do take to make this time of the year happy for them... that's what it's all about to me.
Then I hate the constant christmas songs on the air, wherever you go and I hate the lying of everybody wishing you well when they don't give a duck and I hate that you've got to buy someone a present because he's gonna buy you something you don't really want anyways and I hate the fact that this time is like a spike on an oscilloscope when everybodies jolly and then they go back to being miserable slugs the rest of the year.
I'd rather be working and earning, leaving me to take my holidays when the sun is shining.
Actually it's not too bad over here right now... It's cold, not as much as over there, but the sun will be shining in a clear blue sky tomorrow Sunday. ****ty thing is I'm day duty tomorrow :(

Jayney are you going to work on 25 December then?
I am required at work on the 24th, but have not had the times confirmed. As for the 25th, I believe that it is a Saturday this year which means I shall be spending that day with the wife. Saturday is the only day that we spend together, because we both present the radio shows on Sunday. :D
I have already planned and prepared my radio show for the 26th, it is a crushing show, lots of sick dark metal that beats the listener into a pulp. Can't wait!

I feel the same about Christmas as Lozzo and it seems 'most everyone else.
BUT...
The Christmas and New Year period is a good time for getting together with family and friends and their family to take a break and have a good time. So that is what we do...
