Rip Fella, you made reporting of that scrap informative

For those too young to know, Brian made one of those statements that everyone remembered, "I counted them off and I counted them back" as a way round the MOD censorship to say no losses.
A first class international journalist working an environment over run by sewer rats.

I fall into the too young to know :(
Not having a sea based attack capability is what would have cost us the Falklands if the government had their way back then.
Props to those who tell it how it is

What a shock.
And in the same week the Harriers made their last flight.

Only 61, very sad. A great reporter with a distinctive and engaging voice.
RIP Brian, and thank you.
Agreed. One of the few journalists with integrity
and a nice voice

I seem to remember him being in Berlin, when the wall came down?
A pretty significant event in my wife's families time line
He'll be missed

Too young to remember any of his famous reports. But he's apart of some of the major news stories of the 20th century
RIP
Very sad.
He was famous enough to be parodied in "The Day Today" (if you remember it)...... Brian Hanrahanrahranhan :-)
One of the very best. RIP.
I was in the RAF at the time and remember that phrase as if it happened yesterday.
As previously said, both Brian and Kate brought the real news to the masses. Their no nonsense, doesn't matter how deep the 5hit or how low the bullets are reports are a piece of history that deserve more recognition.
I remember many of his reports, including the "I counted them out..." He reported with conviction, and honesty. And because of that you felt you were being told the truth, unlike with some reporters.
He'll be missed.
RIP

I believe the Harriers he was referring to were RN fleet air arm ones as opposed to those of the RAF which was the report on Radio 2 apparently...Jeremy Vine...he's such a rascal!

Yeah me too, I was out at Wildenrath when the Falklands was on, seem to remember his report on both the BBC and BFBS, 61 is to young to go

He was quite clever, he wasnt allowed to say how many aircraft has taken part in the attack but it was enough to know all made it back safely, apparently he was asked to report on the harriers last flight last week but was too ill to attend.
