I have to admit, after being a forum regular for a bit, I have never actually been on a AR. It justs make me a bit nervous about not knowing anyone!

Please put me mind at rest!:D

Doesn't matter though the people ive met up with down south have always been nice people.

the normal way is to rather than just use the forum actually get out and meet some of the folks in your area or indeed other areas, then when you go to an AR you have a mix of those you've already met and those you haven't, after all bikes aren't just for talking about over the internet you know.

Yeah Rictus i know that, but I have been unable to ride my bike since October after damaging both my knee cartlidges! I am only back on 2 feet again after a long time off, and now I have 3 months of Physio and and another operation.

I have read your knee problems and it gives a lot of inspiration btw!

if you love something you find a way, if it can't be done conventionally you adapt and over come, I know all about being off the road and not being able physically to ride, but that's the one (and only time) scooters are allowed......;).

If you're going to be around early doors on the Friday, come and find the guy who looks like they're in a daze... everybody will have to find me at some point to settle the bill, and I'll introduce you to as many people as you want to meet.

The first people I met from the forum were Gruntygiggles and Stretchie. I just turned up at their house, which is like....500 miles away from where I live and stayed for a few days, meeting Squirrel_Hunter as well. Second time I went I got to meet Viper and Weasel (Mrs Viper) as well.

I went to my first AR this year with GG and Stretchie and throughly enjoyed myself. My suggestion would be that if you're a bit apprehensive about going to the AR before meeting anyone, then make arrangements to actually meet someone from your area, or like me, from somewhere entirely different, and then you will at least have one person you know.

However, be prepared for a Bear attack. It happens to everyone and the more you resist, the more he enjoys it. You go limp, Bear goes limp!!

Dont be, turn up, put your tent up, and after 10 minutes or so you'll feel right at home and wander what on earth it was you were worried about.

If you read about the AR10 you Will notice the biggest regret from most people is not saying hello to every they met, SO you will find a lot of people saying hello to every one they meet this time. Lol
So don’t be nervous, were all in the same boat.
And as mark said, meet your local members, and go for a ride, most groups invite other groups to join a ride out.

Just to echo what everyone has said, just turn up and meet the wonderful .orgers.

Ok so I knew a load of people when we did AR07 - same venue as AR11 will be, this was evidenced by the convoy that made it up the M1 :)

However my 1st rideout was 4 years ago today, one guy I knew, 2 others I didn't.

It didn't exactly go to plan, but is a prime example of how folks pull together.

I'd only just passed my test and still recovering from my first off the day I bought my bike (yeah...nuff of that) when I decided to attend AR10.

Rictus kindly came to my place to settle my worries the bike would be ok going that distance, and up til then he was the only person I had actually met from the org.

Travelled up with a few from round my area and though I was dead worried about not knowing anyone, getting left behind, all the usual stuff, everyone made me feel welcome and the ride was the best ride ever.

Personally I conquered some biking demons that weekend and had a thouroughly great time - it was so good to meet people (even with a born social phobia) and put faces to names. Also makes reading posts from people you've met completely different, it's like you see them in a totally different light!

One thing, if you get an offer for someone to take some kit there for you beforehand, take it! MrsEssexDave kindly took my things back for me and it made the ride back so much better (although a little scary as Stu rides like a missle on NOS)

Everyone is so friendly and so decent - going out of their way to help you even though they dont know you from adam.

Can't wait for AR11!

If you turn up Saturday after 9am chances are everyone will be one the rideout :D

Assuming its the same as last year:

Friday all day - people turning up, pitching tents etc. Evening socialising
Saturday - Rideout all day, evening pish up
Sunday - Last bit of mooching about feeling ill, packing up and leaving

So if you're only popping along for 1 day I'd say Sarurday would be your best time. Why not do the rideout too though? ;)
