Howdy All,
On Saturday the 15th of January, my best mate is coming up from Bristol and is bringing his mountain bike as we are planning on heading into Wales along with DMC. So my thought was we would either do Llandegla or Penmachlo again......unless of course anyone has any suggestions?
Reason for my post......anyone fancy joining us? I can't offer beds etc this time, but would be good to meet up with anyone if they are free.

Cool....anything in particular?
Also, plenty of places do reasonable hire bikes....always an option if anyone doesn't have a bike.
I'm going to get work to sign up to cycle scheme, want the boardman thingy majig hardtail, the one at 999. Doubt it'll be done by then tho....
Drew Carey
02-01-11, 09:53 PM
Nah, won't get it through in 2 weeks. If the scheme was already running maybe.
Luckypants / Badger - If / when you see this. What is the Marin trail like compared to the ones we did?

As I know virtually nothing about mtb's the boardman ones seem to be well specced for the money, so looking at these first.
I have zero kit as well so at the least I need a helmet.

I'll let Badger answer that one, I haven't ridden the Marin in ages.
Oh and if you are considering driving as far as the Marin, then Coed-y-Brenin at Dolgellau has more choice and is probably same distance for you.

Ahhahaaa haaaa haaaaaaaaa , no seriously , stay away :( . It is a massive slog at the beginning of near verticalness for absolutely ages . The course doesn`t flow like the others did and is more like an Endurance event , the really good bits are at the end as well and by that time you are so jiggered that accidents can occur in very dangerous places ...... what I would say is that the place is at it`s best nearer Easter Time as you get some great scenery and get a couple more courses under your belt . Lucky has given a really good option there for you and I can wholeheartedly recommend Coed-Y-Brenin , if you enjoyed Llandegla then CYB is the next step up .
Unfortunately I actually have my car test on the 21st of January and , as some of you may know , I have been waiting bloody ages to actually sit a test after one thing or another . I am not taking the risk of knocking an elbow or something which could jeapordise my test actually taking place .

I may be up for this, but one of the lads I ride on the road with is 50 that day and we may be out with the Crappi Peloton to take the mick. However everyone is scared of Ron's missus so maybe the ride will be on the 16th... I'll let you know if I can make it.
In the meantime, any ideas on where you will be riding?
Drew Carey
05-01-11, 11:16 AM
Sounds good Mike if you can make it. At the moment will be either Llandegla, Penmachlo or Coed-y-Brenin like you suggested.
At the moment however, am thinking Llandegla, solely because Coed-y-Brenin is that much further for us to get to. Plus only got the one day.

Ron's birthday ride will be on 16th so I will join you for an MTB ride on 15th. Might bring a mate, depends where you go.
My trusty steed is almost trail worthy again, just a few tweaks to go and a shake down then ready to roll :D Unfortunately the rider is not in brilliant shape, so I hope you guys will go easy on me :puker:
Looking forward to getting out on the bike after a far too long break!!!

I'm seriously considering coming also, my shoulder is giving me grief ATM so hopefully it won't affect my riding a mtb.
Is there any kit that's essential before I hit the trails apart from the obvious helmet and gloves?
I haven't rode a bike for years and I'm unfit so dont want anything too strenuous :)

Wooo.....glad your coming too Phil. Will be a laff. Aside from what's been mentioned, decent waterproof may be required for this time of year.
Am most likely thinking of doing Llandegla, because if anyone has any issues, or gets cold etc, its fairly easy to drop off the main route and cut back to the car park.
Details here for the you guys who haven't been -

That is unless peeps fancy going further afield.

So just to confirm......anyone can tell me if different...
Me, Al (My Mate), DMC, Specialone and Luckypants maybe meeting us there.
Am deffo thinking Llandegla, as convenient.
So if thats correct, what we want to do for getting there lads? I don't have a bike rack but can get two bikes in my car. But can only give a lift for one other.
DMC / Specialone - You got a bike rack? Just thinking with an estate could get all in, three bikes on rack and a bike in bits in car. Just a thought. However we do it, we can sort petrol between us.
Lastly......anyone else fancy joining us?
Luckypants

If I was rock, I'd ride my Trek there and home again. But seeing as I will be out on the road bike the day after, I'll let that slide! See you there, I'll be in the sex-trail. ;)
Just tell me what time.
Drew Carey

Will do......considering that it gets darker much quicker, was thinking of departing our area as early as possible, say 8am.....would be down at Llandegla for 10am, do the route then have a late lunch. Means we get back at a reasonable time.
Unless peeps fancy more of a lie in?
Sounds good. I dont mind driving as long as peeps chip in for juice. Got a rack too so space shouldnt be a prob.
Meet at Drews to leave at 8am??? Suits me :D

12-01-11, 01:18 PM
So anyone else fancy joining us on a muddy mountain bike course? :-D
Phil - you going to meet at ours for 8am, or at DMC's first? If ours let me know and will PM you my addy.
Mike - we are aiming to leave at 8am ish to be at Llandegla ready and rareing to go at about 11am. That should give us enough time to get around the course.

Yep, the really annoying part is it was right next to our bikes in the back of my car when we sorted them out. :smt093 I spotted it when I got my bike out to wash.
On the subject of washing, bloody full sussers take forever to clean! All the various nooks and crannies to clean. Top tube needs a polish too. Eeek! I'm turning into Gary 'Clean bike' Law! :D

Have you sped up the video?
It's just that at about 50 seconds in there is a very small bit of audio that sounds like a voice that has been played at high speed dubbing like you could do on tape to tape recording back in the day ;)
Hmm.... my tooth is still a bit wobbly.
