Walking into that room and finding the chair and chain was rather creepy to say the least! Fortunately, I did some research and it seems that it was set up that way by other explorers.
Anyway, thank you for your kind words, nice to know that the blog does actually get read. Do feel free to leave comments on it, all are welcome. Hugs from Carol and Jayne. XXX

BBC I Player Program on the Closing of the cruel Mental Hospitals. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00sfpvf/Mental_A_History_of_the_Madhouse/?t)
It is a sad fact that being locked up in a mental hospital was sometimes for something as serious as having a child out of wedlock! Unwanted family members, people with learning disabilities and the actually mentally ill were often confined in these hospitals and treated worse than criminals. It was a good day when they started to consider person centered, care in the community for people trapped in these mental hospitals. The best bit of it all though, is it gives us folks into Urbex somewhere to play that has a creepy and dark history. :pale:
I am really excited by the Urbex thing and would love to explore other places too, would love to look around some of the old industrial places that we have here in the UK. One web site I visited had an exploration of a former prison, that was creepy, but for a different reason. :smt061
I dont know if people accept the dangers involved with entering these properties. They are exciting to go around, and especially when its history in a box which is untouched from the outside world, however most of the building are structurally unsafe and those which are safe, are usually riddled with asbestos. I like the photos that people seem to get from these places but wouldn't go round taking any myself.

Sometimes I consider visiting a mental institution when I can't ride my bike. (not one that's closed though)
Mostly I just sit around and pout while muttering swear words.

This is something that I do take very seriously, but you are right to raise this issue because it is a very nasty way to die. :smt104

This is true, although if the building's quite undisturbed and you don't go round bouncing off the walls you would have thought the risks pretty minimal.
Knowing how many tradesmen have no idea what it looks like or was used in or how recently it was stopped being used is slightly more scary.

I worked there (office worker, not nursing staff) over 15 years ago. Some incredible stories that are almost unfathomable and a very, very sinister 'museum' which was basically just some rooms locked away in the bowels of the complex.
I'll never forget some of the things I witnessed there, amazing to think how much we've moved forward as a society in less than 200yrs.

Its a bit of a trek to get inside, at one time security was pretty cr4p, although its been beefed up now. But there is always a way in
Yeah they would probably look good in B&W i just have not had time to play around, I always shoot colour as you can make them B&W at a later date but you cant make a colour image from a B&W
We had a couple of mental hospitals up here, Rainhill, which was turned into a golf course I beleive and Winwick which was turned into luxury apartments, Kerry Katona used to live there.........;)
