No but I listened to Desert Island Discs this morning, it was Alex Salmond, the SNP leader. I used to think he was a bit of a dork, faintly amusing by forever yelling about an independent Scotland, and a complete turn-off to an English ear.

Scottish readers probably won't understand the English approach to this - you're a long way away, we don't have that much to do with you in day to day life, we don't understand the strong sense of Scottish national pride, it's how it's always been (well not always but most English people have absolutely no idea about Scottish history, no idea about the Act of Union, no idea about the Jacobites, and probably even less interest) and we can't see the problem.

But on the programe Alex Salmond came across as a warm, caring and thoughtful bloke, strongly influenced by family, and with a clear sense of purpose. Have to say that I changed my opinion of him.

Yes he came across well, but that does'nt atone for his dreadful taste in music.

I liked the first one - some Scottish diva - and the last one, Caledonia, which of course is very well known. Otherwise I tend to agree:D

Dond be fooled, he is about as anti English as you can get. Now he is first minister he has to tone down his views but he would still burn you at the stake if he thought he would get away with it.
