View Full Version : Facts - men v women , cyclists v RoW
women are 9 times more likely to be struck by lightning than men ...cos they where bras with wire in them ...it makes sense
cyclists are more likely to be self righteous ****s than the Rest of the World because ...????????????????
....i just took the risky move of crossing the road near the Whitechapel Art Gallery - Traffic snarl up everywhere - i just avoid being smeared onto the tarmac by a silent assassin going 25 mph or so - and he gives me the " you helpeless waste of space " look and shake of the head ...despite the fact that the pedestrian crossing light was on green and he had crossed a red light ....  :smt067

I am a cyclist and that annoys the hell out of me. It rarely happens to me due to living in the sticks, but I tend to get very angry with them and have to stop myself knocking the idiots off.

+1....happens on way into Brum all the time. I stop at the lights, waiting patiently even when no-one is crossing.
I then get idiots just tearing through. On a couple or occasions I have caught up and as I've gone tearing past shouted, "didn't fancy stopping for the light then"......most times they swear back. Lol. Bothered. There are many who unfortunately will always set a bad example for the few.....same with motorbikes!!!!

Not sure if it's so much a cyclist issue as it is a 'london fing'...
I knocked out 7 or 8 miles on the bike today, most of it was cycle routes and quite country roads, but I got back close to where I live - there's a cycle lane marked out on the pavement for about 3/4 of the way along beckfield lane (it's a mile long residential road). I got to a bit where the cycle lane ends and it's just regular footpath for the last 300-400 yards, but as I was knackered and didn't want to get in the way of motor vehicles, I just pootled along at walking pace on the footpath which is still wide enough for 3 people to walk side by side with extended-out-bits-where-the-bus-stop-is...
Cue old man with a stick stood at the bus stop shaking his head at me as though I'd just pished through his letter box. I took my earphone out to see what was up and he said "the cycle lane ends back up there you know, you should be on the road now" - me: "oh right sorry pal"..... couldn't be arsed arguing but I couldn't be arsed getting in the way on the road, so I just carried on at walking pace on the footpath..
It was the way he looked so disgusted that shocked me. If I'd been gunning it at 20-odd mph and the footpath was only wide enough for 1-2 people then fair play..
I coulda told him to 'come and get me' but that would have been rude .........(but still quite funny)

Sorry I agree with old bloke on this one.
Should have gotten off and pushed is you were not up to the road.
Ok so maybe its because my bike still bears the scars from a cyclist not following the rules, as well as my knee and Vixis's hip/thumb

I've got wicked saddle sore at the mo so I'll prolly just walk it next time tbh :) maybe if the old guy had waved his walking stick I might have taken it a bit more seriously, but it was just a filthy look
cyclist's are vermin to me, should not be on the roads or footpath's in my view

There was always a guy/cyclist on Nottingham ring road that I was sure had torrettes or something. He was nuts, swearing and shouting at anything that move.

I knocked off a cyclist with no lights who went through a red light straight into my o/s front wing at 1 in the morning.
I took the little brat home to make sure he got there ok, had a rant at his parents and next day took the estimate for new wing/bonnet to his home. As you can guess they refused to pay. so now I think all law breaking cyclists legitimate targets for dave P acts of violence.
According to my mother, the first time I was ever in trouble with plod was when I put a brush handle through the front spokes of a kids bike who was riding on the pavement. Still I was only 18 months old at the time and knew he was being naughty so I stopped him. BTW, he was the local coppers lad.

blimey so casual ironic racism is ok over in ralph's thread, but for pootling up an empty footpath at walking pace I'm the scum of the earth....
I bet your views would be different if my skin was a different colour.... say, yellow, like the simpsons?

I was almost taken off the sv by a cyclist while i was turning left in the left hand lane etc at a round about, he tried to ride straight ahead on my left (inside) as i was turning left. I wasnt best pleased!

I used to moan about cyclists and their habits with my holier than thou attitude - till I had to ride across the city in rush hour after taking my car for service - I started off rding as if on my m/bike and obeying all lights and directions, after 10 mins that had gone out the window and I was doing the same as every other cyclist you see. Although I like to think, in a much better way haha :) No pavement riding though.
If you want an example of a truly mental cyclist, have a look at these videos (http://www.youtube.com/user/TesterAnimal1#p/u/18/LhD0JjEgmSk). The chap is the most angry and hypocritical knob-end I have ever seen, shouting at motorists whilst riding through red lights etc.

so there's motorised road users who think cyclists shouldn't be on the road, then there's other road users who are also pedestrians who think I shouldn't be on the pavement - I just want to stop being fat! leave me alone!

I woudlnt worry about it Paul, theres always people willing to generalise and sterotype. No surprise when occasionally its directed at cyclists. Just ignore it.
As for cycling on the pavement, personally I dont. I cant be assed dealing with lemming like pedestrians, I'd rather take my chances on the road TBH.
I've even been shouted at whilst riding on a cycle path before, with some people you cant just win and its not worth getting into an argument. Just make sure you are squeaky clean in what you are doing and then nobody can have a pop at you.

Nah mate there's the odd minger or bit of speeding but since you have to have a licence, insurance etc. people tend to take it a bit more seriously. Unlike cycles where any pillock can go ride.
Then again, I suppose I'm a hypocrite myself, I go through red lights on the bicycle when there's nowt about. Treat it just like I was a pedestrian and I was crossing the road. Same with pavements, if I'm absolutely boll*cksed going up a hill and riding at granny speed then I'll use the pavement but give way to pedestrians.
I know how much of an annoyance cyclists are to proper road users so try and stay out of the way unless I am going fast enough to go with the flow (rare!), figure if I'm not going to inconvenience anyone by doing something then I don't have a problem doing it.

Motorcycles are the same, you can still be a complete pillock and pass your test and get a license and insurance ;)

Ah yes I'm sure that downhill mentalist who nearly took my head off hurtling off a rock in the lakes going over my head in process will have got banned for dangerous driving?
How many motorbikes go through red lights? Probably the same proportion as cars. How many cycles? A massive proportion!

Some don`t even bother with that , some "Green Laners" and "Field Bike" users around here are not even old enough to have a provisional . I have been on my little local training route on the MTB and have spotted many a spotty yoof rattling around on some old bit of cack or stolen exotica ..... call the rozzers and they arrive about 4 to 5 hours later .

I get really annoyed with the "intelligent" students in St Andrews who ride bicycles at night wearing dark clothing but have no lights on their bikes.
