Hi again, i've read in a few places that the Y9H paint is a 2 stage paint. I've finally found a seat cowl off ebay but sadly it is silver and my bike is Pearl yellow.

First of all is it possible to get the paint in a can and if so do you know where i can get it.

And secondly if it is a 2 sage paint does anyone know what the first stage paint is?

Its two stage as its a pearl. Pearl Lively yellow.

The first stage is a white colour, and the second a very thin yellow. You have to build both up to get the colour of your bike.

You can't get it in a can AFAIK, but you can get it from here

thanks again

Looks like it might be a difficult job, am I better off getting a pro to do it?

Has anyone tried it?

you should practise first-get a quote for the work from a paintshop and see how it measures up-might be cheaper and easier in the long run to get them to do it

no thats the complete kit-just take your time spraying and remember that the most important thing is the prep

if you do it yourself, don't do it in a cold place. Best to do in summer, in a non dusty place.
If its cold it won't set properly.

I tried Y9H on my fairing lowers last summer, and got a 400ml rattle can mixed up at my local car paint supplier, was about £20 I think.

The paint supplier was able to quote the correct white base coat and the clear required too.

It still didnt match correctly, funds permitting, i`ll get my lowers done properly.

Its not that it doesn't match properly, its the fact that your bike has faded over the years. Remember the colours are made to a standard....which happens to be as it was straight out of the factory.

I have a seat cowl that is newer than the bike, and I've faded it to match by leaving it in the sun and using TCut a fair bit, as that takes a 'skins worth' of paint off every time you use it. Obviously being a cowl, its not as noticeable as a large area such as lowers. The likelyhood of 'getting it done properly' will still end in the same result, they will most likely get a better result if you give them a sample of your bikes paint, this will ensure a proper match. Its what RS paint said to me when I asked them about matching my engine, as the original one in Suzy was in a right mess. If I sent them a scraping of my engine they could match it correctly. But I never did it, as I did a swap on it instead, as it was a bit poorly!
Forgot about the clear coat, you need that too. LOL.

great guys thanks, i reckon i'll get some heaters on in the garage and give it a go it's only £25 and some time, if it doesn't work i might just get a coat blown over all the plastics

Hey again, does any one know if the black on the y9h colour is black or a funny grey colour like coal? Sorry to ask again

A question about amounts then.

mucho mucho cheaper

using the above as an example, I looked for the Thundercat and they got a match.

they sell the paint in quantities of:

25ml touch up
400ml aerosol
250ml
500ml
750ml
1000ml

Now, you're going to want your base, and your paint and your laquer.

Based on a fully faired Curvy SV, R6 (old style) etc how much of each would you say you needed to respray all the fairings and front hugger?

Would you say you would want 4ish layers of each? (Base paint, then paint, then laquer)? and would you have to mix any of them with anything like thinners if you are using a compressor with gravity fed gun?

Yours sincerely

You want the saddle shutters to match the center piece on the tail. It looked black on my yellow curvy, not grey. What does it look like on your bike?
