Ok I'm going to bite the bullet and respray my bike. For those of you that have been down this road before, is there anything you would change or do differently?

I recon im about 6weeks ahead of you guys, I've got all the gear Im just about to order the paint. Keep your eyes peeled for my re-spray thread in the coming weeks, it should cover just about everything your pondering at the minute.

the tip is
no matter how well prepped you think it is, it wont be ! try agan :)
once you think youve got it right spray a light coat of something glossy over that your doing and take a look for the imperfections. then sand back and start again. :)

My tip
Use a professional painter.
He has access to better kit, are you really going to spend a fortune on a decent compressor, evaporator/regulator, gun. an air fed mask. a decent booth that will dry off without blooming the paint, fly track or dust
OK you can save bucks by doing the prep, but have you got random orbit and DA sanders. He can source the paint cheaper than you too, plus the panel wipe, stopper, filler primer, isolator, plastic primer, lacquer, etc.
Then have you got a nice new lambswool mop to polish it with etc.
Oh you any good at spraying, when was the last time you tried etc. Don't really want to practice on your panels.
Remember nothing looks worse than a sh1te paint job. everyone can see it. you then need to practice excuses.
1) I bought it cheap because the last owner bodged the paint.
2) I had it sprayed down the blind school
3) Owner has payed me to write it off for him
You get the picture

I have stripped bike and am prepping the panels myself. Then handing them over to my painter who knows what he is doing.

DIY spraying at this time of year, if your work area isn't heated might not set as nice & glossy as you envisaged. Especially if it gets a bit colder over the next few weeks. Dusty feel to the paint or even worse remains tacky !

I wont be going down any DIY route, its a pro sprayer all the way for me...
What sort of price range (for a GOOD job) should I expect for a full colour change on a later model 650s
Cheers

I"m getting mine done on the cheap so I dont know the going rate. Ask around whos good nearby to you. Price a few , Then take your pick. The more expensive dont always mean the best.
What I have found so far, is I bloody hate sanding body work! :)
