View Full Version : Silverstone, Easter Monday
Since March and Wednesdays seem to be quite unpopular with, well, anyone with a job, children or skin that can detect low temperatures or atmospheric moisture in any way, I've had a rummage and come up with the following absolute blinder:
Silverstone GP circuit, Easter Monday, Focused Events, 149 quid.
That's a bank holiday on track at a current MotoGP circuit for less than the price of a bottle of champagne in a London gentlemen's club. Or so I'm told.
C'mon, who's with me? I've got a credit note burning a hole in my pocket, a gf who I'm sure will understand that if I'm spending one weekend falling off a bike in France I should spend the weekend before falling off a bike somewhere up north and, well, a litrebike that wants ragging round a MotoGP circuit.
Hell, I'll even set up a poll. You can't say fairer than that.

Roll up, roll up.
Well, I seem to have just booked it. So that's one vote for.

So what group did you go in?
The pansies.
It'll only be my third trackday, my first time at Silverstone, and I can't ride for toffee as most TVSFers will almost certainly attest.
Not voting yet. I want to. Hell I deserve to. But may just be moving house again. In which case I need all the spare cash (and time) I can for preparation for the move. Wouldn't go in any case until the YZF has had a new clutch fitted. So I will stand back and wait a while before voting.

I'm very tempted but as its on the bank holiday there may social functions to attend. I prefer taking a day off mid week to be honest! I'll keep an eye on availabilty and book if possible at a later date.

I sent focused events an e-mail just to clarify whether it is a ride by or static noise test
They responded by saying
The noise limit for this day is the 100db. If your bike is over this you will be unable to ride. It might be worth taking a trip to your local circuit to get it tested just to be on the safe side.
Silverstone is my local circuit and with Hottrax i have not had to provide a static test as it was ride by
oh and they didn't answer my question either is it static or ride by
RAH!

I was under the impression noise testing was done by the circuit operators. If in doubt, give the circuit a buzz and see what they say.
They obviously didn't want to commit to a proper answer as should you decide not to do the event because of the noise restrictions they will have lost your money for the day. Where as should you turn up and fail the noise test, they would still have the dosh.

How is your new tinfoil hat? Comfy?

No from me unfortunatly. No money, no time, and no tyres taht could handle a trackday at the moment. can't afford new shoes for the blade and there is no way I'm doing a track day on the barge.
I need a job...fast!

Still have not got confirmation of the noise limit so i think this will have to be a no from me
Shame as i really wanted to do this day but not willing to waste £149 for it though
Can you not just bung a stock exhaust back on?
I have no sympathy, obviously, being a fully paid-up member of the "loud pipes don't save lives, they just sound obnoxious" society.

I could spend a few hours putting the original back on but then I would lose my membership to the loud noisy exhaust club.
I am still thinking about it

I was a member of that club once. Then I got old and boring.
I even paid to have a full race system taken off a bike. And a dynojet kit removed. And put them both on ebay. And then (eventually) wrapped it round a tree. But I digress.
I can't really see the point in having a noisy exhaust on a inline 4 anyway. V-twins, well that's a different matter. :)
Yeah. When you've got a diesel, you really want people to know you've got a diesel.

I would have to say my inline 4 is just as loud as any v twin.
Only down side is that it backfires a lot more now

But it's an inline 4. It might be as loud (not as loud as the cut down ART can without baffling I had on the SV I bet) but by god nowhere near as nice a sound.

It may not sound good by itself but when we ride in two's and boot it nothing sounds better ;)
That's all well and good, but...

Who needs noise when you have horses?
Should be good in your straight line races you like to have. ;-)

You can debate that when you turn up for the track day.

What? You think I will actually turn up for an organised event?
Working on it, but as usual, sods law sees different to me.

I am now officially a member of the quiet exhaust club :takeabow:
Might be able to make this after all if can find the cash
Be extra careful, now you have a quiet exhaust people are sure to start dying.
That's science.

I don't like it
I can actually here how rubbish my helmet is for wind noise now!
Two potential solutions:
1) Earplugs
2) Five years or so of riding without earplugs
Either way, wind noise (and any high pitched sounds) will cease to be a problem
I see a certain Injury Ian has pleaded the fifth (or the Si, whatever).
Sort it out, sunshine. You acquitted yourself well on that 200-mile thrash round the cotswolds, it'd be rude not to take it on track...

Final call for this - anyone umming and ahhing and thinking about booking nearer the time, it's pretty much sold out so this is the last chance to book a place.
Dont want to rain on your parade but..
Monday 25th April 2011 - Easter Monday
Vox will be hosting a now traditional Easter BBQ -
hum .. race or bbq .. sorry but bbq wins hands down.
You're right, burgers in Essex or ride a GP circuit at speed. There's no contest.
