View Full Version : What bike is this?
I saw this just sitting there on a recent trip to Cape Town, and fell in love. Took snaps for ID'ing.
Anyone know what bike this is? It obviously doesn't look like a standard of whatever it is, but a start would be great.

Dunno... they look like hi/lo projectors (probably HID) in custom made housings. Anyone that was willing to produce these for commonly available projectors could do well out of it.
I know that I'd appreciate something like this... I have 4x A6 projectors sitting on the bench which require housings for weather proofing when I can find the time.
As to the rest of the bike... Frame rails are a bit chunky, but form follows function. I reckon it could also lose the belly pan.

Are those bar-end indies?!
I've seen a naked super blackbird with those headlights, so you must be able to get them from the custom bike suppliers.

nice !
Some super sports bike can look quite good after being nakedised following a front end smash.
That doesn't. The frame is ugly when you can see all of it. Looks much better with it's clothes on.
The chassis plate staring you in the face in the first photo would have given you at least a clue! ;)
For future reference (in the UK) I've been told *cough* that you could use the askMID website to see what bikes are (or at least based on) from their reg number.
 pug fugly
Would look better with bits of the frame cut out......

Do you not think the new ZX10 has gone back to looking cool again? I think so.

Got to admit, I do like the look of the 2011 model! But did you see the MCN review of it though, the BMW and Honda came ahead in the group test...all the power too high up they said? If I had the cash it would be a tough call...the BMW is gooood on paper and in reviews
I'd just reserve judgement until I've ridden it myself though, it's a ZX10 for christ sake :) When are you having a demo ride on one?
Here's the youtube linky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fADBQD3t8W8
I saw the vid. But I am nowhere near in the same bracket as those riders. I'd never ride any litre bike to those sort of standards as to really realise there was a difference between any of them. Riding that hard and fast on any of those bikes would scare me silly. I like the ZX10 for the electronics it has on it, it looks bloody awesome. For me that's enough. It'll always have way more to give than I would ever want to use.
As for a test ride. When I am seriously in the market to get a new bike, then I'll take one for a test ride. Not going to torture myself by riding one and not being able to afford to buy one. That would just make the want all the more painful knowing I can't have it. On the flip side of that, I may go out and test one and decide I actually don't like it and then the dream will be shattered.

Too true, use it all and die most likely
They say the power comes in high up the rev range which might not be such a bad thing...it would mean you would have a mild mannered bike for the most part and if you wanted serious grunt just drop a gear and twist a little more :)
What would life be without the dreams aye, I am still dreaming of a KTM RC8 even though realistically if I could afford one I probably would buy an SMT or adventure instead for longer more comfortable rides...
My old YZF750 likes to work best in the high rev range and when getting it up there, it performs very well. Not bad at all for a 15 year old bike. :)
The ZX10 just ticks all my boxes. Being the 'best performance' 1000cc bike out there, isn't one of the boxes. So couldn't care less what MCN say about it. :)

Friend's dad got the fireblade when it first came out in 08. He said even that, with loads of low down pull, was just too fast for the road. It would do over 100mph in first gear which is just wayyyyyy too much. You'd never be able to use that performance on the road because by the time you've pushed one gear you'll be well over the limit for losing your license instantly. IMO the fact that the Kwak doesnt even make its proper power until the top end is a total crock of ****e. You're just never ever going to be able to use it, it'll be silly. Our little SVs are fast enough for the roads, so imagine what another 120 odd HP is going to be like ontop of that - crazy. I'd personally rather have a smaller bike that I could push hard, than a big bike that you'll never ever feel like you're using properly.

I know what you mean, I could easily lose my licence on the SV let alone anything with double the power....now and again I have to double check my speed after blipping through the gears a little too rapid...
TBH if anything I'd want a slightly bigger sized v-twin, about a 750 or so, just so I can be an even lazier rider with all that low end grunt...or just add a couple of teeth on the rear sprocket...who needs more than 100mph anyway...
edit: I keep coming back to the KTM SMT and Aprilia Tuono, those will be test ridden someday soon just so I know what's on offer

Fact is I have passed guys on pretty much every bike going and been passed by guys also on pretty much every bike going including ones with much less power, including a CG125 when I was stranded spinning in snow, lol. (But I was on the GPZ so it was about even in power terms :-P)
Performance is nice if you're on the motorway or an open road and want lazy power, but you'll never see the best of it. That would remove the fun of it for me, but hey horses for courses.

I've had many bikes over the years. The best bike I've had for thrills and spills has been the SV. But then I also like the laziness of the YZF750 when riding long rides. But the power is there if you want to have fun. For me the ZX10 isn't about having the power and using it. I don't want the ZX10 so I can use all the power it provides and because I want to cane it on a track. I just want it because I like it. It's cool. I'd still use the YZF for most occasions and the ZX would come out on sunny warm Sunday afternoon rides. If Suzuki ever comes back out with as good a looking bike as the v-twin (curvy), I'd probably buy one of them again.
