maybe it's a sign of good times, instructors getting better or examiners more lenient? Anything to prevent more bikes getting on the road... and why does the bike test cost more than the car? the module 2 should be the same if not less...
Car
£62.00 (weekday)
£75.00 (weekday eve and wkend)
Motorcycle: Module 1

I really wish I had a time machine so I could go back and own/drive all of those (even the Metro) but they're either long gone, thrashed to the point of death or mint condition but about £17,000... Woulda been nice to be able to buy one for pocket money when the market was nicely flooded with decent nick examples...
Oh well, guess I'll have to stick with my s4  (still wish I'd played around with hot hatches a little but hey ho)

Doh, late to this with my absence, nicely done mate!
I only made it through mine by distracting my examiner (he was training to be a bike examiner) so I kept chatting to him about that and he missed a few minors (still caught me in the act of 10 of the buggers though! :()

When I passed my car test in 1989, I don't think they did pass reports then cos i didn't get anything.
Passed first time...
Passed bike first time with 2 minors, how I passed I don't know cos I didn't have a clue what I was doing. Seemed to click on the day, first time it had ;)

Your the man to see then mate when I need track tuition then :)
It was a secondary duty whilst in the Army. I really didn't want to go on the course but glad I did. It was a right hoot instructing. The only thing is, when they students finally get on the road, you as an instructor have absolutely no control over the vehicle and are 100% reliant on the driver. I've had a few heart in mouth moments.

At least you're fairly well protected if they do get it wrong :-P
At least you're fairly well protected if they do get it wrong :-P
Oh and it went very very wrong one time. I was asked on a training ground to allow someone to drive who never even sat in the driver seat before. Didn't have a licence of any sort. I tried my best to explain all the controls and what they do. The last piece of advice I gave him was if all else failed and he lost control to hit the 'dead mans pedal'. This is a pedal that if pressed will instantly cut the fuel supply to the engine. He got in and off we went. He was doing okay until we went down a sharp decent which at the end of was a sharp left turn. His speed built up and I kept telling him to take his foot off the throttle but he panicked. We started swerving from one side to the other. Can you imagine 15 tons of steel on tracks, sliding broadside, first left then right hand sides. I had given up all hope of getting out of the situation without involving a crash into the trees at the end of the hill and subsequent steep bank. The only reason I stayed on board was because the young chap couldn't decide which side he was going to crash and I didn't fancy getting run over by the tank whilst jumping off. Somehow, and nothing to do with any driving skill, he got round the bend at the bottom of the hill and the following hill slowed him down enough for him to start listening again and hit the dead mans pedal. You have to bear in mind the 'commander' of the vehicle (me being the instructor) is stood behind the driver poking out of a cupola. There most certainly is not enough time to crawl back down into the safety of the bowels of the tank and get strapped in.
A pack of fags later I was able to continue. With me driving not him.

I was on the verge of giving up I can tell ya, any chance I can redeem myself with a first time bike test pass and 2 minors? :)
