Hi,
My wife past her CBT last week and now wants a 125, but she doesn't want to spend more than £1000 because as she said "I'm going to drop it at least once" but also wants somethaing from yr 2000+ and a 4 stroke.
Ideas?

Save the money you were going to waste on a 125 and put her through her DAS

True but she wants to practise first.

I know it's not a 4stroke but I can't reccomend the dt125 enough. I'm only 5'7 an I rode mind daily for about a year with no troubles. Also won't loose too much value if u drop it on a slow spill cos most will be expected to have minor off road damage anyway. For quite a period it was voted best learner bike hence partly why I chose it, then the sv as that was voted best first big bike.
Hope that helps,
My good lady has a Yamha YTR 125 and she loves it. She's just passed her mod 1 and mod 2 on it and she says it's a doddle to handle. Light as a fart and about the same amount of power, but it does exactly what it says on the tin. Bought it Jan 2010 and it cost £1000 with 3,500 miles on the clock - 56 plate.

If you buy an xt125 you can drop it without smashing the clocks which are often very expensive. The xt125 is also a nic riding position for a learner but the seat is quite high.

CG, YBR etc. usual suspects really.
CG probably the pick of the bunch
I had a VT125 for a year, fantastic bike and a lot better made than every other 125. Paid £2300 for 06 plate with and sold it a year later for £2000:cheers:
Insurance was £115, tax £15 so that works out at £440 for a years biking:mrgreen:
May not be everyones cup of tea in the style depatment but very comfy and seat is very low gives loads of confidence for beginners. Loved my little VT and was a bit sad to see it go, wish I could have afforded to keep as a commuter but it was far too nice to just use thru the winter. The only problem I had was it needs new set of plugs every 3K, other than that nothing.
Traded it in for the SV and the dealer had it sold sight unseen!!!!
If after one, vt owners forum is a good place to look.

The FI YBR's are good but expensive new and used!, but the CG's are honda and seem to go forever.
If she's after something more sporty CBR125, or the budget busting YZF125 or a RS Stroker
Suzuki RV125 vanvan, or a Yammie TW125.

CG125, can you go at all wrong with one of these for £500-600 ish?
Ive owned a YBR and currently ride a Varadero and recommend both highly.
Stay away from carb model YBR's mine was a nightmare this winter but in the summer it was fine, and the varadero runs beautifully

Varadero if your mrs isnt too short.
They tend to hole their price too as its a "proper" bike size and better all round bike than most other 125 out there.

MYCs is a bit cold blooded but fine when warmed up a bit, 30 seconds on choke is fine, absolutely brilliant on fuel getting 100mpg or so.
The charging system is crap though, small bike electrics are horrible. Might be worth the extra for the varadero if it has a proper 3ph alternator!!
