View Full Version : Rideout 19th Feb - Weather Permitting
-Ralph-
06-02-11, 11:16 PM
Right, Sat 19th Feb, Wifey at hairdresser, son at Grandmother, I have the whole day to myself. Weather permitting I'll be out on my bike.
Informal thing, not expecting too many people, so start point, leader, TEC, route, etc we'll sort out on the day or much nearer the time, and to suit the majority of attendees (so if folk from Brum sign up it'll start in Brum, if folk from Leicestershire, it'll start in Leicestershire, etc).
Meet at a cafe somewhere for a cooked brunch, rideout to somewhere else for a coffee and a spot of lunch, ride somewhere else.
Who's up for it?

Two full days to get over the hangover?
I'm out on the bike for a day.
It seems when I was taken out in 2008 I've cracked something in my neck, when its cold, It hurts like merry hell even to the point of breathing hurts it.
I'll have to see how it goes on the 16th to see if I can do another day on the 19th.
I may have to sell the bikes if this keep on as I wont be able to ride anyway :(

Not good, which bit of you has to get cold to affect it? I find that the coldkillers neck tubes are fantastic pieces of kit and have an old one you could have to try it out.

Back of my neck, but its not helped by the positioning on the bike either.
The last ride I did last year with the EAR had me out of my brains on pain killers for 3 days after.

Ive rode a lot in winter mate, unlike some i could mention :smt019
Must admit, although i have rode in the winter, havent enjoyed it one bit tbh, fecking roads have been mud baths, basically green lanes but with cars on as well :(
Be glad when they dry up a bit and start to get less muddy.

ps i wont be out on the 19th I'm a fairy.
Roll on tomorrow Rob? What's that now? Oulton?
I'm keeping an eye on this too. Would rather be a late confirm rather than have to drop out nearer the time.

We're going nowhere so far, lot's of talk but none of these fannys have actually put their name on the list!
But given the names that have posted in the thread so far a Brum starting point heading towards the Cotswolds is a distinct possibility.

Having said that Brum is a long way for me.
I was going to decide where we went based upon where met :D
Everyone happy with Long Itchington? (Lenny shouts YES!)
60 miles to the start point for me. Unless the weather is bloody fantastic and there are loads of really really cool people coming and it turns into the bike party of a lifetime i think i'm going to drop out.
Don't have the wages to splash 60 odd quid on petrol and food either.

Take it that should have been 'Binkay - Nottingham' then?
Still, last ride we did from Long Itch was Bourton on the Water (I highly likely candidate for this ride too), which would be a 200 mile return trip from Nottingham via Long Itch, or about £30 quid in fuel and a fiver on food.
Sure you can't be tempted?

Lol I forget you lot are essentially a bunch or southerners, it's 90 miles of M1/M69 for me just to get to the start point, and while the weathers no great I'd rather spend that 90 miles in the peak district or Leicestershire. When the weather warms up i'll start venturing 'down south' ;)

Looks like a great route, some of my fav roads.
Just a heads up, Stanway hill. The roads a right mess as normal for this time of year more DRZ than ST ;). Very small clear road tracks with lots of mud/stones crap washed from the banks. If the forecast for mid/late week is correct it will be even worse. Also the 'large puddles' can stay for a day or too, so oncoming traffic can be wrong side mid bend. Its poo in the car, let alone on a bike.
Did on the bike last week, so have fun ride safe :)
I'm in Denmark this week and its -6, snowing and heading west lol

I was thinking we'd need to cut out some of the straight bits. The Fosse Way is OK for getting from A to B, but I wouldn't want to make up a significant amount of the ride with it.

Fairy nuff, but I won't be exceeding the speed limit by more than 10% +2 (68mph) all day, on my XT600 I much prefer to chug along and watch the scenery.

Beabert, honestly you ride to your own pace, 99% of the rideouts I've been in groups I've been at the back cos I've rode to my pace not tried to keep up with others.
Most people ive rode with will feck off if they feel the need then wait for you if needed, all junctions are covered so you won't get lost.
You will also learn a lot fro riding with other peoples styles, especially experienced riders, just don't watch me ;)
Come along mate, like ralph said, try it once if you don't like it, don't go on another.

Has it been raining over there today? I've been in Leeds all day, but came home via Nottingham, Melton Mowbray, Oakham, Corby, to get a break from the motorway. Roads were wet but nice and clean. Lookk like they've had a really good wash. Tried on purpose to get spray from other vehicles to go smeary on my windscreen and failed, did the whole journey with an empty washer bottle and didn't need it.
