As a source for sharing new tunes we discover within the genre to fellow .org fanatics!

For those whom are unfamiliar with the genre, here's an example:

Oh- And you'll need bass.

I can understand why people don't like it. I've been musically trained most of my life and I love classical and jazz music which is at the other end of the spectrum, but there's something about certain songs which makes them catchy and really easy to get in rhythm to. Any idea what you don't like about it?

This song took the dubstep virginity of many people I know. Another good example:

Yes, you could have just replaced 'is' with a colon. :D

I like the 2005-2007 era stuff most of all. The newer dancier stuff isn't really my cup of tea. It's the sombre, introspective, less chavvy stuff I like. My all time top favs:

Kode 9 - Nine Samurai
DJ Distance - Fallen
Burial - Untrue
Pinch - Qawwali
Loefah - Voodoo

I also make dubstep under the name "[E]ntrenched". Mostly third-rate Pinch and DMZ soundalikes. :takeabow:

To me it just sounds like the intro for a D&B tune, i keep waiting and waiting for the drum riff to kick in and it never happens.

Still like some of it tho.

There is only one legitimate use of dubstep, and that's to be used as the backing for "How to dance to dubstep" videos...

Everything is chav if they dont like it to anyone over 40/50Oi Young lad. I like my dance music thats for sure, hell i i DJ'ed for 20 years and have about £70k's worth of stuff in my room, but Dubstep is just really noise. The commercial stuff is a little more easier on the ear. the underground stuff is someone playing with a wave generator, or Analouge synth. However, this all said, dance music needed something. Its been stuck in a groove (No pun intended) for too long. I am fed up of listening to re-mixed/hashed/released stuff on every god damn complilation album. Music as a whole needs something, i just dont think that DubStep is the way.

+1

Its just noise tbh, I have a good tolerance of most music, but dubstep is annoying

The thing is is how easy DubStep is. Once you realise what the technology does, it really is about just getting an idea. My mate has a roland synth and its got a DUbstep button...well, its a sine wave with a modulator. Flick that on, hold a chord, job done. Whack over a 4/4 beat and a few 8th nothes and roberts ya dads brother.

andrewsmith
07-02-11, 10:49 PM
I know its just layers and layers pre-set beats, hence why i can't enjoy it as my mind is able to pull the whole track to pieces.

Its what DJ's traditionally do live to trans songs (or did I make that up?)

Just cos you are too young to remember the classics :)

If you want programmed samples, try this - and the hardware was only capable of 3 channels, yet without any external mixing, they managed to get 4.

I've just read through this thread, having listened to some of the music on the linkies, one of the first ones I listened to was on page 1, it's the NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN one.

NOW, that is my most fave song of all time, so anyone covering/sampling etc had better do it well or else............................:smt070:smt070:smt 027:reaper::smt068:smt067:smt066:smt075:smt073GET THE PICTURE????

Now, I may be 41 but I am pretty broad minded when it comes to music covering all types of genres, but since when in the name of the wee man has listening to a "CHIPMUNK" singing the Moody Blues ever been entertainment??????:confused:

Yes I can remember the punk era, I am ashamed to say that I had a lovely mullet hair-do while dancing to Duran-Duran in the 80's (after having got really into the MOD revival in the early 80's), saw the Happy Monday's live in 1991 (I'll even embarrisingly admit that I saw Michael Jackson live in 1988). I've seen quite a few live bands over the years (Simple Minds, UB40 to name but 2), and even got dragged along to see Roxette by the ex-wife, probably why she's the ex!!!!, and I never knew that a brown paper bag had a rythem until Ronnie Size & Reprazent came along & told us otherwise (awesome tune by the way!!!!).

How can what sounds like a small furry woodland animal, backed by a synth be considered anywhere close to good.....................

So was Flat Eric the inventor of dubstep?

According to wiki, it's French House.
"Most tracks in this vein feature steady 4/4 beats with a tempo range of 110-130 beats per minute."

and Dubstep
Dubstep rhythms are usually syncopated, and often shuffled or incorporating tuplets. The tempo is nearly always in the range of 138-142 beats per minute.

Never knew why Dubstep turns me off, but reading that, it's probably cos of the random slightly irregular rhythm. I thought Flat Beat was great btw.
