View Full Version : Valentines day!
So it's almost upon us! Just curious as to what you guys are doing for/with your partners? I know you're all a bunch of romantics here, so this thread should be a hit... :D
My girlfriend isn't going to be with me this year :( she's about 150mile away to be closer to her Grandad who is very ill in hospital at the moment. I was just going to send her up a card and maybe some chocs or something. Bit boring, but I'll take her out when she gets back, maybe for a meal. (providing the drive-thru que isn't too long )

We are skint so have decided to spend nothing on one another this year.
It has been clearly explained that neither of us are to craft anything nor pen any ditties either (Sarah is not creative and hates having to do that kind of thing).
I know this sounds un-romantic and boring but this was not my decision.
In years gone by I have written Sarah poems & carved them into a squirrel feeder I made, convinced the local pizza parlor to make a heart shaped pizza and write I love you in pepperoni as well as the leaving clues leading to gifts which lead to clues which lead to other gifts bit (to name but a few).
Now I have been caught in the 'let's not buy each other presents' trap before but as we are so skint this month that I spent the day in the house freezing my bits off (no coal until Tuesday) i think she's not pulling my leg.

That's fair enough mate, hard times. :(
I do agree it's a big money maker thing but girls seem to love it and if you don't get them anything they'll no doubt get arsey, it's just easier to go along with it. I also think it's less important when you're married.

You could just turn up un-announced. You'll get bonus points when really you've just done it for the 150 mile ride.

I like your thinking! However, my bike is off the road at the moment and it's no fun driving the beasty Hyundai Accent 1.3! Plus I have this ****ty thing called work that I must participate in throughout the week. :(

I think that girl comment is a bit incorrect, I am of the female variety and certainly don't expect anything and wouldn't get arsey if i got nothing.
If my bloke got me something cause he had to for an easy life I would be thinking there was a relationship problem. It's just a money spinning opportunity and all commercialised.

Yeah sorry a bit incorrect to tarnish with the same brush, I'm just talking from personal experience. Most will say they don't mind but really they do, especially if their friends start talking about what they did/got.
Wish she saw it your way, not that I mind taking her out, it's not a chore lol. It's just the money spinning thing like you said that I don't like it's almost like you're expected to do something, and if you don't you feel guilty.

What, that you can't stand up to your mrs and will be buying her flowers a card and taking her out for a meal ;)
Nothing to do this year...joys of being a single lad. However, i am open to offers from the female forum members.

I'm flying down to Montpellier for the week. Unfortunately it's for work so my wife is quite pleased - she gets to watch her rubbish programmes on the box at home without me complaining...
In my experience, the bigger the bunch of flowers or the box of cholcolates, the greater the guilt!

Try having a family member with a 14th Feb birthday.
Trying to organise a birthday outing is impossible, restaurants are crammed with the guilty or desperate.
We once booked 3 rooms in a Hilton hotel and when we arrived tried to book a table for dinner, sorry the restaurant is full. What even for residents? Yes don't you know it is valentines day!
Had to smuggle in Pizza, wasn't happy and demanded a reduction on the bill as no restaurant service available

How about calling the hospital and asking if one of the nurses could drop her off some chocolates if you posted them to the ward sister. Enclose an extra box for the nurses as a sign of your appreciation...

I bought all my valentines cards last week and didn't even get a bulk discount!
Mr LPH will get a card from my above mentioned selection. We don't do meals or flowers - total waste of money and I'd rather go out on a night when the place isn't packed with either rowing or love struck couples.
But I may have lunch with a very attractive 23 year old. He's one of our former Young Cricketers and is back in London that day so we're going to try and catch up. I'll be like a cross between Barbara Windsor and Joan Collins!

Have to send flowers to the Mrs. at her work.
All the other ladies there get them so wouldn't do to forget.
Bring home the card and the box of chocolates.
Her birthday is a few days later so we go out for dinner then.
Total waste of money I agree but it makes the mrs. happy so a traditional Valentine's day it is then.
