After a bit of a strip down, my bike is nearly finished...for now!
http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/2992/imag0129i.jpg (http://img824.imageshack.us/i/imag0129i.jpg/)
Taken on my phone, so a bit blurry.
I'm getting really keen to finish it now, I miss riding it.
Things done so far:
GSXR 750 K7 forks.
310mm SV1000 rotors on standard SV650 wheel with custom brake disc spacers.
Custom made spindle and spacers to fit 650 wheel.
TL1000 clip ons.
Radial master cylinder.
Custom made billet top yoke.
RSVR adjustable length rear shock.
Brembo rear caliper on custom carrier.
Braced swing arm, polished and clear powder coat.
Re-sprayed Ford Panther Black.
Various bits powder coated gold.
Home made stainless steel tail tidy.
Home made exhaust hanger (under rear footpeg).
Home made exhaust link pipe.
Things to do:
Front mounted speedo drive.
Custom rear hugger.
Decals.
Hopefully get it all finished real soon.
Hope you like...

I think so :D
Top baffle in and a little tiny "baffle" in the bottom.
Looking good.
Need to do the swingarm too though.
Now I've sprayed it black, I wish I had the swing arm black aswell.
The next time I strip the swing arm off, I'll get it done.
Looks Nice!
How's the RSVR shock? Was it a pain to fit?

Shock feels a great deal better than stock and when playing with the adjustments, you can really notice the difference it makes.
It wasn't a straight swap, it needed to be engineered to fit.
See here (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=140008)<--
But well worth it for me, as it didn't cost me anything to do :D
I like the adjustable shock length aswell. It gives me more things to mess up with the geometery of the bike rather than just raising or lowering the forks through the triple clamps.
A real improvement and the bracing of the swing arm takes the flex out of the swing arm, making the shock do more of the work.
:-D
Awesome work. Don't think it's something I could ever manage!!

Strange half faired lovers! ;)
It was one of the attactions of the SV when I first saw it.
It reminded me a bit of the bikes I had or wanted when I was younger.

black rear sets or levers too?
black rear sets or levers too?
+1
Other than the gold bits (would prefer them black) and the end can, that's probably the nicest 650s I've seen. Normally mainly only like the nakeds.

I got the newly made front spindle back from zinc plating today :D
This will allow me to use my SV front wheel on the GSXR forks,

All together with the spacer and locking nut.
http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/5908/oct2010008.jpg (http://img580.imageshack.us/i/oct2010008.jpg/)
And the aluminium rotor spacers to bring the disks on the SV wheel into line with the GSXR calipers.

You're a maniac! :D
Wish I had the skills to do that. Does that mean you can use the stock speedo drive?

No, the inner spacing between the forks is too small to fit the speedo drive in there.
Although the discs are further apart, the spacing inbetween the forks is considerably smaller.
So thats my next project, to make up an adaptor for a hall effect sensor.

Hardly a project by your yardstick :-P you can probably get one in the right spot just off a mudguard mount.

Speedo sensor working at last :D
I couldn't glue the magnets straight to the disc because the SV1000 discs have 9 spokes.
So I machined some aluminium discs to hold the magnets for the sensor.
These could hold either four or eight magnets depending on what year SV you have. Mine is a K5 and uses eight.
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/4130/seepdo001.jpg (http://img6.imageshack.us/i/seepdo001.jpg/)
These locate using the disc bolts.
(please excuse the rusty discs )
http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/3008/seepdo002.jpg (http://img194.imageshack.us/i/seepdo002.jpg/)
I have to counter bore the mounting holes a little deeper, because the location diameter on the disc mounting bolts does not locate deep enough into the wheel for my liking with the disc spacer as well. I am using SV1000 disc bolts as these are longer than the 650 ones.

The sensor in position using the mudguard mounting bolt.
Approximatly 4.5mm distance from the magnets to the sensor.
http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/2669/seepdo006.jpg (http://img684.imageshack.us/i/seepdo006.jpg/)
Works fine now I have the magnets the correct way round ;)
http://img852.imageshack.us/img852/9925/seepdo005.jpg (http://img852.imageshack.us/i/seepdo005.jpg/)
The sensor holds the mudguard away slightly on this fork leg, but it is not noticable when everything is on.
very neat.
i was going to do something similar but decided against it because of the disc bolt shoulder issues and magnet security.
i likey though.

Magnet security is not an issue, A drop of Araldite in the pockets, drop the magnet in and hold it in with another magnet from behind the disk.
They will never come out...
One magnet jumped from one disk to another as the glue was setting and got stuck to the top (you may be able to see where the coating has come off one of the magnets in the 1st photo) I had to get a pair of mole grips on it to get it off, that magnet is not coming out of that hole...
As for the disc bolt shoulder issue, it's all shear stress, so as long as there is a couple off mm engagement it should be fine.

A little different for me to comment on looks but you could do with a different exhaust to show off the swingarm brace.

I had sintered pads on the old SV front end, that I really liked the feel of.
I didn't like the feel of the organic pads that came with the GSXR front end, so I've just fitted Gold Fren sintered pads.
And while I was at it, I thought I would fit a stiffer spring to the rear shock to try and balance the bike out a bit more.
I have 1.0 kg/mm springs in the front.
I know are way over the top for even my weight.
My sag settings are just within the limits that I found on the Ohlins web site (20mm static / 35mm rider) so I have decided to reinstall the original spring on the RSVR sachs shock.
I had previously changed this for a 475lb spring, but never really like it.
It was too soft for my liking, and with luggage on the back it was always bogging down.
Now that I have stiffer springs on the front it felt even worse.
Rear shock removed.

A quick clean of the shock and the 9.3kg/mm  spring waiting to be installed.
http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/9666/balletshow2011035.jpg (http://img829.imageshack.us/i/balletshow2011035.jpg/)
After only 45 minutes, the shock re-installed.
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/2895/balletshow2011036.jpg (http://img33.imageshack.us/i/balletshow2011036.jpg/)
I will see what sag settings I can achieve tomorrow when I can find another pair of helping hands.
Talk about only changing one setting at a time
With all the changes I've made, I haven't got a clue what the bikes doing:confused:

If you start as if it's all wrong then it's better than chasing your tail because something you thought was right, isn't.
Don't pay too much attention to static/rider sag "correctness", only one spring rate and preload will give that for your setup and weight bias, wheras another spring may work equally well or better. What's happening as you ride is more important.

My biggest worry is the suspension not reacting quick enough to a bump/dip in the road surface mid bend.
That's what spat me off before IMO but that was with the original shock on 15000+ miles

I took the bike out for a bit of a shake down to Wales yesterday.
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/2039/ponderosasv.jpg (http://img69.imageshack.us/i/ponderosasv.jpg/)
The bike is a lot more balanced with the big spring on the back but it does need lighter springs at both ends.
The rough tarmac shows that up but on the smooth tarmac it's fantastic :D
I have slowly been fiddling with the compression/rebound and with every adjustment it just got better and better.
I just have to keep going untill it gets worse then start coming back again.
I didn't have time to get it spot on, the roads in Wales are so good and long you just don't want to stop :D
I left here at 12.30 and did eight and a half hours of riding that cost me 48 pounds  in fuel.
It's getting harder and harder to have some fun on the bike.
And those Pilot Pure's I have on are brill :D I couldn't fault them at all yesterday.
I really do need to update my post in the Tyre section soon.

In Bits again! 8-[
Getting a re-spring and YC-Voodoo re-valve on the front end

and while I was at it... new rubber all round.
I've gone for Pilot Pures again but with a 70 profile on the front this time :)
So that means scubbing in the tyres at the same time as trying to set the suspension up! nice
I should get it all together early this afternoon.
Thanks for all your help YC :notworthy:
