went to the funeral of an old cycling aquaintance today, at 72 he was still racing and winning events in his class (king vet).

Sadley he passed away in his sleep following a suspected heart attack.

So family and friends had packed the chapel, as he was a well known and liked bloke. We heard the eulogies from family and friends, and then the service finished with the vicar asking us to give a moment of silence before the coffin was taken away.

As the moment of silence came to and end, the first bars of the song started over the speaker system.........

xt0V0_1MS0Q

It instantly lightened the mood and there was laughter around the chapel. Even though there were tears from his close family, it was a fitting song to say goodbye

So what would your final song be?

Led Zep - Stairway to Heaven :smt051
Monty Python- Always look on the Bright side. :smt040

Mine would prbably be a Springsteen track, but I haven't made up my mind yet

After the thread about wills the other day, you might need to write down your last wishes. :batman:

Not that I'm thinking any gloomy thoughts :takeabow:

"Always look on the bright side of life," aptly from The Life of Brian.

I've also picked 2 hymns, and left instructions that no one wears black ties. The more colourful the better.

I was tempted to go for a New Orleans jazz band thing for after the coffin goes for cooking but thought that a bit obtuse.

My mates Dad was born (many moons ago) and 'Entry of the Gladiators' was playing on the radiogram (guessing it wasn't a DAB set anyway).

He insists this is played at his funeral.

Last Goodbye - Jeff Buckley - it's one of my favourites
Sitting On Top Of The World - Lenny Kravitz
She Goes On - Crowded House

But can someone please make sure Mr LPH sees this as knowing him he'll play some bleedin' Radiohead obscure remix that sounds like a cat trapped in a cutlery drawer because he'll know it's the one time I won't be able to turn it off.

this makes me feel very young :D

I know that I'll check out of me own accord doing something I love (drug fuelled sex sandwich heart attack*).

I think mine would be:
Otis Redding- Sitting on the dock and always look on the bright side of life
or a bit of Motorhead- Ace of Spades, anything I would like to play would be way too offensive for a funeral

*Disclaimer: If that happened I would probably have the '666' birthmark somewhere on my body

Was a chuckle for both me and Mum to see that pther people had the same sense of humor as my dad :)

My ex girlfriend who I was with for three years passed away at only 21 due to cystic fibrosis. She was a really happy girl and wasn't afraid to talk about death, as she knew it would be soon. She chose U turn by Usher as she was being bought in, just because she liked it, and then had always look on the bright side of life at the end :D. I know some people dont agree with the whole making people smile and laugh at funerals, but it really helped as having a funeral for someone so young I can imagine is always hard. Made me have a smile anyway.

As for me... I really don't know what I'd like. Hopefully I've got a long time left ahead of me and am yet to find the song that sums me up!

Not really thought about it before - maybe Teardrop - Massive Attack assuming the crematoriums of the future have hi-def projectors as this track might be lost on some without the visual to back up the lyrics.

I meant Judy Garland of course, not Julie Garland. Not bad lyrics for 1939, that's 72 years ago, says it all. I still love the film:cool:

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

Three songs lined up for my funeral.
"Seasons in the sun" - Terry Jacks
"Wont get fooled again" - The Who
and as the curtains close
"Highway to Hell" - AC/DC

The other thing that i have specified is, - no religious mumbo jombo.
