I can't believe it. I've just put £20 of petrol in my diesel A3:(
Waiting for the recovery now.
I think it's gonna be expensive:(

You still might get away with it without it knackering the high pressure pump, just drain all system out and try it.

Brother did it, in his brand new Seat Leon TDi. He'd been to fill his mrs's car with petrol, come back and took his to fill with fuel.....forgot it was his and filled it with petrol not diesel, and drove down the road where it broke.....expensive!

My mate done this last week in his diesel transit, £20 of unleaded, so he topped it up with diesel and carried on driving it.
I told him not too and get it drained but he never, afaik, its still running ok, long term hes probably fecked it.

Is it diesel in a petrol, not tooo bad but petrol in a diesel, fubared?
Something to do with diesels having higher compression etc iirc.

55litre tank and you have put in £20 of petrol=15litres of petrol, add a litre of oil and fill it up with diesel to full. 15/55 about 25% +oil you will get away with it providing you haven't run the petrol neat through the engine,it might be a bit smokey for a bit but that is the petrol 2stroke mixture
In sub-zero [-20] we always added 10-15% petrol to the tank to prevent the diesel waxing up and I have never damaged an engine yet by doing it Alternatively drain the tank, and refill with diesel.
You say you switched the ignition on but if you have only run what was in the fuel line and filter you will not have pulled the petrol through to the engine. If you have driven any distance before realising your mistake it might be expensive

Thanks mate.
I'm just getting the tank drained now. One of my mates did the same thing last week and did what you suggested and f
Put some engine oil in and then brimmed it with diesel. He has been lucky.
Hope I am too!
All because of one moments lack of concentration. There was a guy at the pump next to me revving up his gladius with a standard can on. I was watching him thinking how carp it sounded and picked the wrong nozzle up. What a numpty!

what was the damage then?
what was the damage then?
Nothing! That was the price for the RAC to outsource it to another company, recover me to their base, drain the petrol I'd just put in, Them to keep it! and replace with diesel.
If it was my old knacker Mondeo I would've just slung some oil in and topped up with diesel as was suggested to me.
The Audi has an anti syphon valve anyway so I was scuppered
A lesson learned today!

£170 aint bad. i think its roughly £2.5k typical repair bill, if the petrol gets into the motor

Were you in a Shell garage paiste? My old man put £40 of petrol in his diesel BMW last month, fortunately he realised and didn't run it. When the RAC man arrived he said this happens a lot in Shell garages 'cos the nozzles aren't as clearly marked as some of the others. That was his daily job basically-just going round draining the wrong fuel out of vehicles so it happens to a lot of us.
£170 - FM!!!!!! If the bloke does that all day, that's a very comfortable living!!!

Took me a couple of posts to workout how to remove the signature from my smartphone, glad I did as it seems to annoy you as much as it did me!
Ooh, I'll try and remove the signature!

I have no idea how someone can afford to make that kind of mistake atm with the current price of fuel! Glad you've not wrecked it, bet you won't be doing that again in a hurry.

Clearly it wasn't my fault, but that of the Gladius rider who still had a standard can on but insisted on revving it up at the next pump!
