View Full Version : Do brake pads go "off"?

Went out for a spin at last yesterday after weeks of hectic work and other chores keeping me away.

My brakes were terrible. I know the calipers are OK as they had the full refurb treatment at Spannerman's last year which makes me wonder about the pads. They had plenty of life left in them so did not get replaced at the mega service but they are several years old now and I'm wondering if they've simply gone off in some way.

Thoughts?

Can't help but interested in seeing the discussion from this.
I personally would have thought it would have been the calipers if it's been standing in this weather... but who am I to say?

They can "Glaze" and pick up crap from the road and discs which would impede performance.
Remove and scrub them up with sand paper or a file and see if they return the original performance.

Did so and I'm happy to say the bike now stops as it should do.

They have been known to go off if used after their sell by date as indicated on the package. However using them with strong herbs and spices can help to improve the taste.HTH.
