View Full Version : The old SHARP test debacle...
Damaged my Arai Viper GT so need a new lid. First lid I had was an Arai Condor but I was knocked off and it was wrecked, Arai's fit me and protected me in a bump.. so I went Arai again.
Problem is they do carp in SHARP. The Shoei XR-1100 gets 5 Stars and also fits me (albeit not as well and isn't as comfortable as Arai).
So I put it to the org the age old debate of whether SHARP is worth the paper it's printed on. Not sure if it's changed since the last time I looked.
i do believe that a terracotta plant pot is a 4* SHARP rating, so that should give you some guidance =P
Haha, well my Arai doesn't look too great then!!
in fairness mate, they all go through the same official tests and if the arai fits you well and is your preferred make, then go with it,
nothing worse than riding in an uncomfortable lid.
at least your between arai and shoei rather than "DRAGON" and "X-STAR"

I for one believe the SHARP tests. Just because you spend £500 on a suit doesnt mean its any better than a £100 one. Too long have big brands like arai relied on its brand name to sell helmets. The sharp test is independent.
Anyway ive got a AGV airtech, it was £150. 4* rating. Happy so far.

Dont believe the marketing ploy....;)
Nobody is EVER conpletely independent no matter what they try to say.
When it comes down to it, as long as a helmet fits you right and your comfortable in it Sharp tests dont really come into it.
I bought my helmet on how it fits and looks :)
Just looked at the sharp site and found out its a 5 star rated lid.
Big deal, its the last piece of kit I want to try out anyway:)
Knowing my luck, I'll have a 5* lid and lose a leg anyway...

Here's praying...
I'm sorry. I take that back.
Go onto Fleabay and pick up an Arai GP-5x, the only arai to get 5*'s in sharp testing. Got one and is as good as my chaser. Only drawback is the choice of visors and pinlock/fog city availble. looks a bit like a car helmet but is the bike version with larger visor. Only avaailble as old stock now.
The orger from sheffield with the blade for sale had an XL, for sale, on here, not long since. Search and thee shall find.

I bought my lid before the sharp test results were released, so bought it on fit and comfort. Explain how the government aren't independent from helmet manufactures?
Mine's a 4* for £130 at the time. Chuffed :)

Explain how the government aren't independent from helmet manufactures?
I can assure you that there is some thieving scumbag in the government with an invested interest in nearly every sort industry in the UK.
Its life.
And politics apparently...

The reason the GP-5x will have 5 stars is because it's the only one without the side pods. From memory the Arai's have done badly on the side impact test because the side pods come off.
I'm going to try a Shoei anyway to check the fit again, the XR-1000 used to fit me but will try an XR-1100. If not I'm sticking to Arai as they always fit me well.
