Just took the sv out for a quick spin as been wanting to try new suspension out, first impressions, awesome, its a 05-06 zx636r rear shock and hagon front springs with 15w oil, massive improvement over stock and easily the best £150 i spent this winter. now on to the problems, hold clutch in, select 1st rev engine and bike trys to pull away with clutch pulled in. select neutral release clutch, and i have a rattley clucth, whats the problem there please. clutch dead?
ive fitted a race can and k&n filter which is related to this next problem- as i roll back the thorttle bike splutters all over the place then takes off. i think this is air/fuel related.
and to the final (i hope) after getting back home i switched ignition off opened up my shed, went to stard the bike and the already suspect battery, was dead, enough power to turn lights on but not to start it.

any advise on anything here is greatly appreciated.
also if anyone near to colchester or ipswich has a set of vaccume gauges and the knowledge then i would like my carbs setting up, thanks
Kev

I've heard of quite a few having poor running with the k&n filters, sounds like poor fueling to me.
Sounds like your clutch is either going or need adjusting properly at engine end, I'm no clutch expert so I'm sure someone will help you out with that one.

well i bought the k&n from someone on here, that i reckon fitted it, had same problem as me and sold it on, im going to put standard filter back in and see what that does, clucth was fine last year but i have had various bit off the bike so may of knocked/routed the cable wrong

I have a K&N air filter fitted to my curvey S and a Free Flow can. Bike runs a treat. I assume we're talking about the K&N that drops into the airbox not cone filters.

ill have a look at the fuel system first, check for squashed hoses that have been routed wrong and then go from there, any more views on the clutch issue please?

as special needs said try to adjust the clutch fully at bothends, check oil level (low oil can effect it) if all else fails get it looked at by friendly spanner monkey

If that K+N flows better than stock it will be running lean. Need to rejet, carb balancers don't do that.
That could be the spluttering, definitely sounds lean.

Clutch requires adjusting or you have too much oil.

And check your charging system, how long were you riding for?

well one problem has been almost solved, i just found the regulator rectifier on my work bench, im assuming this is why the battery has died, i was out for 15-20 mins. where does that live? i put it in a safe place and forgot about it

It lives under the right hand (as you sit on the bike) seat cowling, bolted to the subframe.

ah that solves the mystery of the 2 bolts i had left over from when put the bike back together. thanks

i hope ive solved the running problem now, on removal of air filter i squirted the jets with carb cleaner and got rid of some gunk, then noted the front carb wasnt seated correct and it was wobbley. i think when i dropped the bike last year it must of popped out of the rubber, and when i had the bike laying on its side over winter to fit the forks, it came right out. and on the test ride on thursday it was just resting on the rubber, hence the stink of fuel and crap running. just waiting for the battery to charge then ill run it up in the shed. I just hope that no dirt has got in to the front cylinder

Carbs now seated correctly, regrec fitted and battery charged, and some decent weather today ment I got to take it out again. Happy days. Ran lovely, the only thing I need to look at is the rear shock, as at high speeds the back end is a bit skitterish, probably needs softening a little, and then I need to grow a pair and lean that thing over more, miles of the edge of the tyres yet at least half inch more tread to go.

Really want more acceleration thou so may go down a tooth
