Oh dear.

You can get them straightened, but I've got a wheel with a worse dent than that and you don't really notice it when riding.

I see a large picture of a pothole, the location, a large picture of your wheel and a claim to the council.

That is not good!

Council would be my first stop, they have Cash reserve for such claims, but do you have to have had the work carried out and a receipt before a claim?

Yeah and you also have to prove the council had previously been made aware of said pothole.

Woth a poptart though

There's four cars in Salford right now with smashed wheels, tyres and damaged suspension 'cos a manhole cover dropped into the hole on a dual carriageway!

They feel your pain!

Pete ;)

dont think you have to have the repairs done to claim as my dad claimed for a broken windscreen because of a pothole that he himself had informed the council about at least 8 times, they told him to get the work done, roughly £700 from a peugeot stealer, he told council he couldnt afford to have it done, 6 weeks later, a nice fat cheque turns up.

he did have to get a quote on proper headed paper tho,

Ages back (when I was fit enough to ride a pushy proper) I hit a pothole and claimed against the council, I got a new rear derailleur and wheel thanks to their cheque...didn't take that long but it was quite some time back now...defo worth a shot, it is there fault after all...

I fell into a pot hole and bust my leg. Council wriggled out of their responsibility as they were able to show the road was inspected 9 months earlier and no defect found at that location. They did patch the hole the same week as my claim went in. and 2 months later resurfaced the stretch as there were so many holes.

It comes down to did the council reasonably know and you needing to prove the pot hole had been there long enough for their inspection regime to spot it. But it is so easy for a vehicle to be parked over it etc that kerbside ones (in my case) could be there for years and never picked up.

same as Tim.. my claim on the Alfa was not upheld cos they could prove it had been inspected in the last 4 months and said hole wasnt there then..

+1, I can't emphasis this enough, you need to get it done fairly quickly with pics of the road and pics of the bike damage

There are some online databases where people report potholes, this may give you and idea if it has been reported to the council before a good one is: http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/ (they even have an iPhone app to help reporting if you are one of those iClone people). Other sites are http://www.fixmystreet.com/ and http://potholes.co.uk/ and likely more.

If the council do claim that it is unreported when you report it to them then please let fillthathole.org.uk know you have reported it so the next person knows it had been reported.

Good luck!
