View Full Version : Regular meeting?!

I think this has tried to be organised before....anyway...
Just wondering if anyone is up for a regular (every couple of weeks) meet up at a pub for a drink and some food? I went a few times when I lived in the Thames Valley region and it was a good laugh.
I have had a look on the EAR map, and obviously this wont be suitable for the whole area due to the distance to travel for some members.
I was thinking of something that is accesible for the Bedord, Peterborough, Cambridge based members?
Any ideas, or suggestions?! I would be happy enough to travel 45-60 mins ish each way for a location...
Is it a lost cause, or is there enough interest?
Rick
Not sure you'll have much luck mate as you've seen we're spread far and wide and struggle to get people together a few times a year never mind a few times a month, maybe a few that are local to each other might.

From what I have learnt about the EAR is someone needs to put a location, time and date down and then just hope people turn up. I know of a good Beefeater in Bedford that might be good. It's also a shame that alot of members from the Bedfordshire area are hidden away in the woodwork.
I think the EAR is too big to have pub meet ups but I guess that's what rideouts are for.

i'd be well up for it, i think its a really good idea!.
im over near peterborough though.
i think the best way would be find a few pubs and get people who are closest to them to go to that pub and try and even out the numbers, so there would be a few groups of us EAR guys dotted about :) sound like it could work?

Wednesday is fine for me
kellyjo - cause you can come, bike or no bike :)
How about Huntingdon as a starting point? Anyone know of any decent pubs in that area?

How about The Exhibition in Godmanchester?

:( Shame it's sooooooo far away from moi or I'd consider appearing over summer if that happened!
I would normally have the attitude, '**** it i'll just go really fast' but my points situation at the moment doesn't favour that view.

I think we will need one meeting place for norfolk/suffolk and another one for the rest of the EAR ?
Then we could have weekly meetings at each with maybe a monthly at a point in the middle!
A lot of people can't make the rideouts because of work or family commitments but would be able to come along during the week so at least we could all put faces to names.

I totally agree, I don't mind making a day of it once a month and going anywhere for an EAR meet but I don't really want to travel 100+ miles round trip for a pub lunch every week...
Sounds like we need to start another thread to decide on the Norfolk / Suffolk meet up location etc...
chiefrick
28-02-11, 06:17 PM
Yeah, a monthly meeting in a central location for the EAR would be good.
Then I was thinking every couple of weeks for the localised meeting, I think weekly is a bit too much to ask, at least until the weather gets better :)
kaivalagi
28-02-11, 06:22 PM
Yeah, fortnightly works for me, weekly unofficially if the mood arises maybe...
We could even have a go to the "western" haunt one month, and to the "eastern" one on another...make a day out of it maybe...weather permitting of course...
Where would the central location be for all though? edit: Snetterton looks good  ...need some leathers first...

Can't do weekdays me. Could do peterborough, huntingdon, Cambridge, norwich etc.
Mate of mine has a mighty good Portugese restaurant in thetford.
Or perhaps one member picks somewhere in advance.

Bury might be a good location for the whole region to converge onto?
Western - Peterborough/huntingdon/st neots
Eastern - Diss/Thetford/Norwich

Mmmm, Thetford is fairly central...could your mate do a good deal for us all...just thinking out loud. What's the grub like there?

Thetford ain't too far from Bury and is further north where the member map (http://www.mapservices.org/myguestmap/map/tiltsv) looks busier (if you can call it busy )...but I agree Bury would work
Sounds like a plan is coming together :) Now we just need some nice ruddy weather!
Bury is a reasonably interesting ride for me too :D

I was thinking that we could just meet at a pub etc, We don't need to have a meal.
That way people can just turn up and see who's about etc.No planning needed, just once a week if you're going just put it up here.
Just somewhere that if you turn up you will see a friendly face. More of an excuse to get the bike out etc.
Thetford/ bury st edmunds or even Diss is a good location for the nor/suff lot.

Portugese - Spicy chicken like Nandos? The journey back on the bike will be a lot quicker than the journey their! LoL

I think talking of arrangements for all once a month, this thread is going to get confusing.
I totally get you on the pick a straight forward place for the regular "east" meets and just turn up, worst case one of us is there for 20 minutes and has a pitstop for a nice ride out :) We need a list of who is definately up for it on a regular basis so we can get a feel for where the best place really is....

@BigBaddad, is there a website for this restaurant so we know what were talking about here?

What about a monthly meet for a meal and a local weekly (thursday or Friday please!) at a pub/burger bar etc for the east.

Good for me, Thetford is the absolute maximum distance I'm willing to travel for the regular mets though, it's over 3/4 hour to get there at law abiding speeds....we need to know who are interested, another thread on it's way

Started a new thread for eastern EAR meet ups to get a list together of who and where, please stick yourself down: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?p=2492509#post2492509
If I am trying to be too organised just say....I just figured it would be good to get an idea on the best possible location for all interested towards the east

Thetfortd is not too far, its about the same distance as my regular Wednesday ride to Great Bentley.
But even I struggle to get there with work, child care & the bleedy weather.
Think I went to Great Bentley twice last year, so fitting Thetford in midweek is going to be tricky

I'm just thinking if I've had a crazy day at work and am travelling on a week evening would I really want to go as far as Thetford, even for you lovely lot.....maybe I would do that on the weekend but not all will be able to do the weekend either (baby on the way so most weekends will be gone from my personal calendar again once the wife gets organised I am sure)
I wonder how many times you lot who've been in the forums for some time have tried this before  this part of the world is a frigging nightmare for meets aye...

Just a small place, good food, steaks you cook on a stone. Lots of stuff off the grill. Nothing too fancy. Probably not ideal for a regular hook up, but maybe once in a blue moon.

How about we organise an EAR meeting at this Portugese restaurant in Thetford? Then we can discuss in person whether it is viable to arrange Western and Eastern meets on a regular basis?
How about doing it w/c 11.03 or 18.03?
I am free pretty much any nights.

Sounds like the best option to me, so we can hammer out a decision between us all
Or we could discuss it on the ride out this coming weekend...

What do you think?
I get the feeling that if we have any hope to get peeps from all over to meet it has to be the red lodge area....once a month....
I did a quick roll call in the other EAR eastern thread (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=163342) and looked on the map and we are just all over the place which is a royal pain in the ar$e....I was meaning to get something sorted but I've been tied up with expecting mum and needing to be on hand too much. I could definitely do a once a month meet at red lodge but anything more regular and I'm not so sure I can guarantee anything now.

Yeah, I think it's the dullest from any which way, but is kinda central....unless anyone from that rough area has a better suggestion for a meeting spot?
The next issue will be that some can make week evenings and some weekends...I'm up for what you've suggested and can do the weekend too if it looks like it would work better

I would not be able to do weeknights most of the time due to work:(
TBH i think that 6.30 on a week night would be to early with work for a lot of people with the distance .So maybe a weekend meet might be better.
For example first sat or sun of the month??
What would people want??
Maybe first wednesday and third sat/sun of the month?? Then people might be able to make one or the other or even both.

Unfortunately given the option of riding out to red lodge or Great Bentley on a Wednesday night, I'm afraid the latter beats Red Lodge by a country mile.
Loads of bikes, same kind of food, drinks and more fun roads :p

There are weekly bike meets Tuesday nights at Hartford Marina (Huntingdon) and At ultimate bike gear (Papworth), BBQ at papworth too!
I think the Papworth one starts next week... Whenever the clocks change is when they start it up again,
I dont know if this suits other members, but I usually go every week, and there are lots of regulars and friendly people :) (Not so much at hartford marina)
Would be nice to meet you lot sometime!

Whereabouts is it?

Sounds nice but count me out, it was far enough to red lodge but Papworth or Huntington is about 75 miles from Norwich, so that's 150 miles round trip and a minimum 1 hr each way travel time....before doing anything interesting
We need 2 groups, west and east if we want regular meet ups I think

I only live a few miles away from Papworth and never heard of that place!
I am still fairly flexible and easy, though as above I think 2 groups would be easiest.....

It is a tuesday :( starts at about 6, i normally go straight after work so im not sure how long people stay there, and yeah hartford isn't too social, but still alot of bikes.
And to get to Ultimate bike gear if you come up to papworth through Hilton, then turn into the industrial estate, and take your second right (i think) its at the end on the left :)... pretty well hidden but it is there!
Really nice guys and nice food! (it is also a shop and is open most days, i cant remember the exact time tables but take a wonder up there and you'll find out :)
Ultimate Bike Gear is a quality shop. Completely agree with Heresiarch... I ended up there several times on my DAS course and ever since I've been back its always "fancy a brew?" before good honest advice from the owner. Top Work!
