View Full Version : Bike as only transport? Scrap my car.
My car is fecked...
So I'm gonna scrap it and just have the bike for personal transport.
It's kind of timely, 2 days before the tax was to run out on the car the gearbox went bang.
I couldn't really afford both anyway.
Anybody know how you go about scrapping a car, never had one this old and this broken?

Find a scrap dude, give him a call he'll come give you some money and take the car.
Find out what the current scrap value it first - and remember to remove any fuel, spare wheels, bling etc - make sure you get a better deal.

What car u got mate? Scrappers offer £125 minimum for a car now but if u got summat half decent it may be worth breaking it up a bit for spares.

Put in your local free ads first as spares or repair, you'll get more money this way and probably help someone out who might just need some spares for their own car.
It's a 1.6 Mitsubishi colt... Kinda sad to see it go as it was proper nippy and handled really well. Little cars with pokey engines rock.

Well worth popping it up on some free website as spares and repairs..
Twice now my cars have broken, first one ended up getting £250 for it, second got £150. It's definitely worth it. Wack it up on gumtree, pistonheads, forums, etc. I think I used ebay for both of mine (but then you've gotta pay the fees)
http://www.cartakeback.com have offered me £140 to take it away. I paid £500 8 months ago...

Get a new gearbox :)
Clutch was on the way out anyway, tax is £112.75 for 6 months and MOT runs out in 4 months...
Good money to waste... I need a baby 4 wheel drive for my other hobbies anyway.

As it's still got MOT, I'd say don't scrap it just yet ;)
Advertise it on Ebay with a sensible reserve, a handy DIY type might pay good money as all he needs to do is find & fit a new gearbox (can clutch is an easy job to do at the same time as the gearbox)
If it doesn't sell, look at scrapping it.
Make sure you send the buyers details to DVLA or you will get chased in the future :(
Good luck
Sadly the colt is a very underated car and working examples with 12 months mot don't go for much on ebay.

best money is to list on ebay as spares or repair, I have had two nutters turn up to take away two different broken cars both made way more than scrap value
