Stopped by the cops today. Coming over Gabalfa onto Caerphilly Road, spotted a police bike at the lights. I don't nod to police bikers (they might take it the wrong way) and next thing I know he's right behind me, very obviously scrutinizing me.
At the next set of lights he comes alongside and tells me to pull over where it's safe for a spot check.
I pull in behind Dave Edwards and switch off and wait anxiously while he radios me in and waits for the response. He then comes over and asks me to confirm details about me and my bike.
He then explains. Every month they have a 'theme', this month it's bikes. He says he's stopped six other bikes so far today, congratulations, you're the first one who is completely clear. Three had illegal tires, two had no tax, one had no insurance. I, however, am entirely good and free to go on my way.
"Thank you, sir." (that's me, by the way!)
So, fair warning, guys. As the weather is getting nicer, looks like they're looking for people unpacking their bikes and taking them out without giving them a post-winter check-up.
That's my first ever stop, by the way, in over a decade of driving.
