I had to leave my motorcycle for 5 months in the garage :(. I forgot to change the engine oil. In the last few months there have been times when temperatures went far below freezing (-10, -7, -6,etc). Now that I am back I wondering if it would be better to first empty old engine oil without even starting the engine. Then fill it up to the recommended level, start the motorcycle for about 3 to 5 minutes. Empty out the engine oil again and then fill it up to the recommended level. Does this sound like the right thing to do?

Thanks,

just change it as you normally would. neither sitting idle for a few months nor some sub-zero temps make the old oil in any way dangerously bad. you could spin the engine with spark plugs removed to get the oil around,
but given how accessible spark plugs are on an sv, it's ot worth it either.

depends when it was last changed and when its due a service.

Your wasting money dropping it twice. Turn the bike over and let it get hot, kill it and do a change. Crank it but don't turn it over check it (and top up as required) then turn it over and let it get hot again (i let it idle until the cooling fan kicks in). Let it cool right off check it and go for a 20-30 mile run
