Hi all,
This might be a long shot, but im currently an undergraduate business economics student and am looking at going on a work placement.
Wondered if anyone knows of any sites where placement opportunities are advertised?

I have looked through ratemyplacement.com and wondered if there are any other sites like this that people may have come across/used?

Cheers

If I were you I'd contact places that you'd like to a do a work placement in and ask them if they would take you on. You'll be surprised, especially if you show a genuine interest in that place. Some places might never have even thought of offering work placements in the first place.

Doesn't your Uni have a placements office to help?

Look at the firms that do you want to do. Letterbomb (not literally) all the firms as speculative enquiries, if you've got a name for HR/ Director/ MD even better

Thats all I did with my placement.

If you have a sideline interest in IT/Networks then have a look at the Cisco website they have loads of different internships etc.

It does, will be trying to get an appointment to see them, but just turning up saying i cant find anything/im not hearing back from many wont get me too far, whereas turning up with a few suggestions might help spark up ideas.

Thats what I have been trying to do, but struggling to think of firms offering relevant placements.

I have been applying to places from October, but having very little success and was running out of ideas of where to apply. But have been told (by the module leader) that more places will still be advertising new placements over the next few months. (but where these placements might be is anyones guess)

Yep that sounds about right. You will need to apply for anything and everything now though as the deadline is getting closer. Who knows where you might end up next year...

Thats pretty much what I am doing. Its not an essential part of my course, but it would be highly beneficial to obtain a placement.

Highly beneficial is an understatement. Remember it is not a placement, it is a year long job interview. That was one of the best pieces of advice I've ever been given...

I agree, at one interview was told that they hire 60% of their placement employees after they graduate.
But the trouble atm is actually getting the placement.

Dan it took me 100 applications to get 1 interview and another 30 speculative to get a year placement

and that was before it went belly up in 2008

Yeh, it is very tough to get. The recession hasnt help. Not given up yet though.
How did your placement go? Enjoy it?

Hard work and a good laugh, came back to uni able to read M+E plans backwards and read engineering drawings and I was working a building surveyor

Mate I wouldn't tbh I didn't get this job until July and started 10 days later
