Well after many conversations with people, I made the decision to give repainting my scratched parts a repaint. I thought worse comes to worse I will have to get a professional to strip it back down and re-paint it.

So here we go, so far I have repaired the two cracks in the lower fairing with a little bit of plastic welding :D and also the Top Nose Cose (*Many thanks to specialone*) which also have a scuff and two cracks! but as you will see below I have plastic welded that and took a lot of time wet 'n' dry sanding by hand (Think the misses is going to kill me if I spend much more time in the garage, ha!)

(** Pictures from iPhone Camera so quality not great! I promise the paintwork looks better than it does in photo **)

Looks okay does that. Rattle can jobby? You remember to lacquer it after? Just doesn't look quite shiny enough?

Yep a good rattle can job, lots of preperation and light coats. :-)

Lacquer still to come.. :-) Hopefully finish the lower fairing and nose cone tonight and then move on to the rest.

Yes its not as shiny as I choose to do it slightly matt. :-P So that be why! ha!

Plus once laquered. I'll leave over night and then polish them up aswell so i will get some gloss back. :-) But don't actually want it too glossy as want it to be a little different.

Look pretty simular to mine. The trick is just not to rush.

Will never look as good as a pro job, but, they get the best equipment... See Gav's bike...

Nice work Craig, I'm glad I could help a fellow madlander :)

Try and spray in a warm room, makes a big difference, the paint will harden better if baked a bit as well.

Build up the layers of laquer, it will give a good amount of gloss and protect it and allow a good flat and polish without cutting into the colour coat.

Ps, leave the paint for a couple of weeks before polishing or the 'green' paint will come off.

Like I said try and bake the paint if possible.

Yep all about taking your time... :-)

Yeah it might not be as good as a pro job but it has also cost me a hell of a lot less! Plus If i want to repaint them all another colour I'm not so sad that I spent hundreds on a pro job. :-P

My garage is warmer than the house! :-P The electric company is currently loving me! ha! Why the previous owner couldn't have plumbed the central heating into the garage aswell. ha!

Yeap I'm planning on building up the layers on the laquer also.. Should end up looking pretty good! :-)

Tidy job that no sign at all from the pics that they were ever cracked. Whats the score on DIY plastic welding then, hard to do etc?

Its definitely for someone with patience, lol. But its fairing easy.

Just be prepared to not worry and ready to sand and sand. Oh and sand a little more. :-)

I didn't sand the inside as I thought, who on earth is ever going to see the inside. :-) I'll make a video another day on some scrap plastic to demonstrate. ;)

Are you doing the fairings back to the colour they were before the "off"?

I'm going for a slightly matt 'er black with a little gloss. If that makes sense, ha!

Yeah, it does.

Was just wondering if you were doing the fuel tank.

I want to repaint my Thou. Repainting the fairing is easy, but, the tank seems to be a bit harder to do...

I have a few fairings that would benefit from this but I don't have a clue where to start. Could do with a 'how to'.....

cbay

I will attempt a "How to" another day of how I did it, but some people will agree and some won't but as I say it is how "I" did it. :-P

I'd be very grateful. If it worked for you, then it will work for me.

Right well here is the nearly finished project, all I have left to do is the rear seat panels but they can wait for now. :-)

I don't actually think the picture do it justice, and just awaiting my Fabbri Double Bubble to arrive which will be nice.. Oh and I need to repaint the mirror stalks.

Plus I'm thinking of painting the forks Gold. Hmmm..

Actually that dont look bad at all, nice job :)
Did you do plenty of clear coat?
Forks powder coated gold would look quite good as well, it wouldnt cost much either.

Nope but when you described how you wanted it, i didnt expect it to look as good, hence my ' actually that dont look bad at all' comment :)
I do prefer gloss black tbh, but its not my bike and that would have cost a bit more i guess.

Edit, looking at your forks again, they would look good black as well.
