Right now that's done, I dunno mate, I'd like to but it might be a bit much to ask of the owd bugger for a first run out.
I need to
Determine what a couple of random wires are doing hanging around the place
Receive and fit new tyre
MOT
insure
tax
Find 1m of braided line, make line for front
bodge up some sort of rear caliper and line
possibly acquire and fit new shocks
nick some rear indicators from someone or something and fit.
So just a couple of little bits :)
Oh I also need to change the front sprocket and service my SV in the meantime as well. Busy evenings :-)
xXBADGERXx
16-05-11, 10:39 PM
Finished yet ?
yorkie_chris
16-05-11, 10:41 PM
I determined what the wires are :)

16-05-11, 10:45 PM
Let me guess , they are for a crappy old alarm that is no longer there .
rictus01
16-05-11, 10:46 PM
if it turns out they are a one bar electric fire.....you've got it wrong....;)

No other evidence of alarms which is strange. It has me confused actually why anyone did this to wiring but meh. I reckon rictus is right :)

It weighs as much as a house, you can sit on the settee and toast marshmallows over the 1 bar electric sidelight holder lol.

A yamaha with a huge fairing?
All you need now is some black and white paint and a cape. ;)

a set of these can be yours for the cost of you coming to get them ;)

In other news, we have almost working electrics. Trust yamaha to have 2 wires in the same place, the same colour, doing totally different things.
have you bent matts ears? After all, hes slightly more accustomed to Yams than any other bike;) Old Yams at that.

Rather than breakdown cover, I'd suggest hiring a mate and a van to follow you.....be cheaper ;)

It's not looking good for the weekend, probably going to end up going on the SV.
As tempting as it is to risk it just to prove you buggers wrong!

Well after that feeling of impending doom this morning, everything, worryingly, seems to work.
We've almost got a rear brake, it's charging consistently (albeit a bit high at 15V), it runs sweet.
Main problem seems to be the fuel tap, which doesn't shut off, due to the amount of corrosion on the plunger seat for the vacuum cut off.
xXBADGERXx
18-05-11, 10:53 PM
And optimism is running at an all time high ...... you know it`s gonna break down on you ?
yorkie_chris
18-05-11, 10:59 PM
No I've pretty much abandoned the idea of taking it to yours, I still need a tyre and the only reason the shocks aren't leaking is because they're EMPTY.
xXBADGERXx
18-05-11, 11:11 PM
Rideable then ?
yorkie_chris
18-05-11, 11:20 PM
Needs
front tyre (en route)
oil in final drive
brakes finishing off
So I could probably get there on it. Come on people stick some money in a pot for mine and badgers beer fund and I'll have a go at it!
Better idea... take it, and we will have a sweepstake for how far you get :p

xj 900... guessing it's a yam then? First he passes his driving test, now he's bought a truck of a bike. That guy used to be alright?

19-05-11, 03:58 PM
After visiting the garage of doom this fine afternoon, I can now confirm to all, that this bike is indeed a mammoth of the dinosaur variety. The fork legs compare to that of an anorexic chicken, which are likely to collapse round the first corner under the strain of carrying the weight they have to bear!!
....thats without adding to the equation the weight my young pie munching friend !!
xXBADGERXx
19-05-11, 04:07 PM
They`ve kept many a despatch rider on the road , until they spill most of their fluids and still carry on going , it`s not a scratcher by any stretch of the imagination but it does exactly what it says on the Tin , gets from A to B ............ somehow , eventually ....... with something glowing . Keep the Faith :)
yorkie_chris
19-05-11, 05:15 PM
Not with no front tyre it doesn't.
Unfortunately the R compound tyre I ordered (that's R for Rock 'Ard by the way) REFUSES to seat on the f***ing beads and scuppered the whole plan of MOTing it this afternoon :(
We're buggered. SV heading to Wales.
xXBADGERXx
19-05-11, 05:16 PM
Have you tried melting the rim with a Gas Torch and bending that around the tire ?
dizzyblonde
19-05-11, 05:16 PM
......theres me thinking you were just foot pumping for the exercise :)
xXBADGERXx
19-05-11, 05:21 PM
Foot pump ....... seriously ?
yorkie_chris
19-05-11, 05:33 PM
Yeah I tried that after compressor had failed (my air chuck broke). Then tried a bit of pipe clipped over valve stem with air gun stuck in that, then schrader chuck with nitrogen cylinder. The tried ratchet strap round it, then blasting it on with carb cleaner. (holts carb cleaner is CRAP for that BTW). Needs a cheater tank methinks.
Dicky Ticker
19-05-11, 06:49 PM
Chris,Probably me being inane but have you tried it without a valve?
yorkie_chris
20-05-11, 12:17 AM
Yeah that is with core out of valve. I'm fairly sure taking it somewhere that has a better compressor than mine will pop it on fine.

When I have been in the house garage I have used a rachet strap round the outer casing to compress the tyre on the rim partially and it has gone on.This tends to force the bead outwards just enough for it to pop into place ,then inflate as normal, but as you say a blast from a high pressure compressor will do it failing this method.
If you can get wheel over to my work (Firstbus garage on leeds road near macdonalds)in huddersfield you can try our air lines which are set at 120psi. I do my own at work and they always just pop on. In fact I am putting another supercorsa on tonight I bought of mr messy last night. I am on a late shift and gaffers will be gone from 6 onwards. give me a bell if any good 07980745907 if you dont have my number anymore

Thanks very much for the offer mate, sorry I'm off down to Wales today though. May well take you up on it next week though?

Normally this works a treat, but didn't on this one :(
No worries, last late on monday. A few days off then earlies. Will only be able to do it on weekend on earlies.

Well he was going to fail it because the cable ties holding the clocks on don't match but I showed him the rust inside the tank and he let me off :)
Got an advisory for lack of rust on the exhaust and not enough cracks in the tyres though :smt082
Overall it actually rides and goes far better than such a knacker has right to, the empty shocks don't seem to make much difference. Must be the oil I put on the hinge in the frame. Pretty nice comfy, characterful torquey beast TBH, feels a lot lighter than the divvy 9 too.

It pulls well up until about 500rpm shy of the limiter in top :) Would probably go right to limiter on a bit of a hill lol.
F*** knows what that is in mph because the speedo bears no relation to reality, speedo was pointing at 140 ish but there is no way it felt that fast. Perfectly comfortable even at that speed.
