First up it's for a K9 Gladius. I want to upgrade the bouncy bits and am thinking maybe new kit would be nice. (I'm the polar opposite of midas when it comes to anything 2nd hand, all I touch turns out to be sh...)

The gsxr 600 K6 and up is a pretty straight drop-in (for some) from what I can gather but I've been looking at Hagon and Nitron as well. I'm not looking fro race prep just a decent rear shock, hopefully to be followed up with something for the front. (Suggestions welcome)

Wondered what opinions were on the two makes, one better than the other, pretty much the same... Are there others I should be considering?

Cheers.

I have a Nitron and I love it. Expensive, but great.

Didn't someone on here lend Hagon their Gladius so they could develop their shock for it?

Thumbs up for hagon. Couldn't believe the difference in handling after fitting it (with k tech springs up front)
I would imagine nitron, hagon, ohlins ect are 100% better than the standard shock.

What Nitron/Hagons do you have fitted? I'd probably be looking at the basic model.
Hagon

Nitron

Yep, someone did lend their bike to hagon as a test bike, I think they got the shock for 100 quid. Couldn't do it meself as I'm in Spain :(.

difference between the Hagon and the Nitron.

Hagon has nickel plated steel body and around £300 inc vat and postage.

Nitron are anodised ally and around £360 inc vat and postage.

both are rebuildable. if at some stage you decide to sell either then Nitron have a good resale value.

We have sold a couple of Nitron shocks for the Gladius now and one lad who we support in minitwins on a Gladius uses the full race shock. Very good product IMHO.

If anyone wants a Nitron PM me as can do you an ORG friendly deal.

If the Nitron is only £60 more I would definately try that. I'm afraid the finish on the Hagon shock on the TZR125 I use for commuting was really poor and although it is still working well after about 6 years (but not great mileage) it looks terrible with rusty body and coating falling off the spring.

Hmm that's interesting. I'm going to have to check with Nitron as they don't have a gladius specific shock listed. I was basing it on the gsxr price as that's the swap people have been doing for the Gladius. A few extra quid for the ally one may be well spent though if they perform the same.

You could of course consider Maxton who develop and manufacture all their suspension in-house. Very high quality from what I've seen...

What is the ball park figure for a maxton monoshock I wonder, is it comparable to a Nitron or Hagon pricing or more like Penske or more than that even? They'll only price based on individual specs so look verrrry expensive to me....do look reallllly nice though

I have Maxton on my older VFR (05) and riding it back to back with my newer VFR on standard suspension, I can say that it is way better. Richard at Maxton described exactly what I was suffering from before I could open my mouth. There were other issues around the way and where I ride, but general issues with the VFR he knew immediately. He is a walking encyclopaedia on bike setup. Quality wise the Maxton shock is top notch, not as bling as Nitron or Ohlins, but very well made. The purple springs are not to everyone's taste though!

About £400 for Maxton, sprung and valved to suit you and your style of riding. See Bluepete's thread here for a recent discussion about Maxton. http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=163167

Dave, Lucky, Thanks! I knew there was someone else that I'd heard of but couldn't remember who. I may have to drop them a line and look at options there to add in the mix. Just read the other thread and looks interesting.

Tis another 100quid over the Hagon so I'm wondering if it's worth the extra - for my cr@ppy riding rather than the workmanship.

It's worth it just for the quality of finish!

Thanks for all the input guys. Initial thinking is I may go for the mid-ground with the Nitron (ideally I'd like to upgrade the front end as well so the extra pennies can be used for that) , I'll be emailing all three and see what pans out. Now I've just got to drum up the cash!

I'll post up what I finally end up getting. Meantime, thanks a bunch for all the input, really appreciated.

Well finally I've opted for a GSXR 600 K9 shock - yeah I know .

Just can't justify the coinage right now for the Nitron, times are tight. Just paid 43 quid shipped for the K9 gixxer as opposed to 320 for a Hagon, more for the Nitron.

The info will be stored for the future when things are brighter so I wanted to say thanks for the feedback.

Cheers

Where did you get that from? eBay shipped from US?

Yeah, I'm hoping there won't be any customs issue as the sale value is low (USD 29.90). Figured I'd give it a go. I'm in Spain and haven't seen many for sale here and those that do come up are pricey. I'll know in a couple of weeks...

The ones listed in the UK seem grossly overpriced too. Will sit tight and see how you get on before I take the plunge.

Yeah I looked in the UK too but a lot of squids for stuff, plus I'd have overseas postage on top.

I'll post up on here when it arrives and let you know how it goes. If it's OK here then you should have no probs back home.

Hi Mate, Just thought I'd post up that the shock arrived today, was sent US postal service and I had a tracking number so I could follow it. Seller ticked the "gift" box on the delivery note which may have helped, didn't ask them to do it.

Anyways here's a link (http://motors.shop.ebay.com/oemsweetmotorsport/m.html) to the seller's shop. Can only vouch for them on this one purchase, but I got what was in the photo, price was good, and shipping was quick too.

$29.95 for the shock, $42.75 for shipping = roughly 45 quid shipped.
