Bike not starting - Opinions

I had a small off back in November, and the bike is slowly being put back to being fit for the road.

The fairings are back on, the battery is off theoptimate and back on the bike (fully charged)

It has a datatool alarm. The bike does not start. The fuel pump primes, but there is no "click" when you hit the starter button. (K9 pointy)

The alarm fuse is fine.

There are 3 cables coming out of the alarm junction box. However, after talking to the mechanic that fitted it, these are normally blanked out, becuase they are not needed on an SV.

After the accident, I started the bike and rode home, it has not been started since.

Any ideas?

I would of thought that those wires would not need to be touched if the bike started after the off. Is the FI light illuminated?

just an idea but you could remove the starter motor and try it on a bench to see if it spins, check all wiring form the battery to the switch then to the starter motor. or it could just simply be a flat battery. i've seen it loads of times at work. it has to be good solid power from the battery or nothing will happen.

give it ago and see what happens :)

I would try another battery. My old one appeared to charge fine on optimate but would'nt turn over and just got the click as you mentioned. New battery dropped in and started first time.

There is no click. Nothing happens except the main light goes dim. (Same as always)

No I haven't tried bump starting it yet.

So verdict is check battery first?

thats definetly the battery then. if u unplug the lights and try turning it over you might get a better response

Sorted this Friday night.
I'd fitted aftermarket levers (break and clutch).

The clutch lever wasn't pulling the clutch switch in.
Got it started after re-fitting the standard clutch. (So I now have odd levers)

Will probably bridge the switch and be done with it, and have my sexy aftermarket ones on.

Makes sense, happened to me before. Didn't think to suggest it.
I just took out the switch and it's now constantly set to thinking the clutch is in. I looked it up before doing anything and it's just a safety feature so you can't start the bike in gear accidently and lurch forwards. I've had no troubles from it. If anything, makes it easier as don't need to pull the clutch in to start it. Was just annoying.

Yeah this is what I'm thinking of doing and just hope I don't end up actually starting it in gear.

In all fairness, I normally pull the clutch in without thinking anyway, and there is still the sidestand switch so you'd probably be on the bike if you started in gear - easier to catch :)

I just did this to mine, for the very same reason.

So much easier without having the clutch switch to think about, although I do conciously check for the neutral light before hitting the starter now!

This is your bikes way of telling you it wants to be stripped down for track riding - it doesnt want to be commuted anymore, it has smelt the fumes and excitement of real SV riding and will leave unannounced if you dont do it!!!! ;)
Oh, and it wants you to lose 2 stone!!! ha ha

Indeed, although I have seen a couple I may be interested in.
