View Full Version : New battery - charge it or not?
Just bought a new battery from MDS - arrived next day, spot on service.
One query, as I cant see any instructions with the battery. When I have added the electrolyte to the cells, do I still need to charge it up, or does the new acid do all that?
Sorry, but I told you it was a daft question....

I would TBH
Have done without and it was fine.
They usually come (dry charged). Just put the acid in, seal it up and go for a nice ride for about 20 - 30 mins.

Put the acid in, WAIT until it stops fizzing and goes cool (1 hour), then seal and charge or ride.

Yep.
I connected the a multimeter up and watched the charge gradually increase, i found rather engaging :D....geek.

Give it a full charge after filling to get the best out of it.
+1 to the Squidman.
You might be surprised how much more charge it'll take on an optimiser or similar. I think I read somewhere that without charging it'll only ever be about 70% efficient. That may have been a different battery or that may have been made up. It's definately worth charging it though.
thanks all.
I will charge it up.

depends on the charger chap, if its got a trickle charge on the car charger (less than 4amp) then use it. if it doesnt dont bother and just bang it on the bike.

As andy it depends upon the charger.
The charge rate should be around 1 Amp hour for a bike battery
Dave is it a fully sealed or fill up and seal?
