Hi there,

Decided my SV is going to have some stuff done to her ( Fork Lowers powdercoated, suspension set up properly for me etc . . ) and wondered are JHS racing still top dogs as their website says they do ride-in, ride out service on suspension setup for £35.

£35 ?? sounds cheap enough but you generally get what you pay for. A good set up with racing kit can cost much more - what do you get for your money? I would expect all base settings measured off and then advice on how you can improve things = JHS doing the work required, if required, plus new suspension parts = more to pay. Any money spent on suspension improvement is worth it though.....................usually!

£35 for someone to whack the preload up to full for you is a f*ckin rip off. ;)
Expect to pay far more than that to get it to work properly as you'll need lots of new parts.

However if that's a few meetings of "is it doing this here, does this happen when you do this" etc etc with a few tweaks in between on a fully adjustable bike that's reasonably well set up then £35 is reasonable.

I don't think a good setup can be established just from bouncing the bits and twiddling, it needs feedback from the rider and interpretation with knowledge. For my money you're better off learning this yourself.

Its usually £40 for 100% suspension to help you set up at a trackday but they do spend all day with you altering settings after each session until its right.

Yer, the guy at 100% is useful for initial set up or problems that occur when he is there. Useful to use an alternative, recommended suspension engineer off track and close to home so a season long relationship can be developed. Suspension should be top priority for better performance. £35 is often the start of things...................more expensive!

As said, if you don't have any mods to your bike then all you can set up is preload really, followed by being talked into spending a lot more cash on bits. You can do this yourself anyway, and if you want to know about what to improve, so a search on here, grillions of threads about it. You might also notice that no-one has yet recommended JHS in this thread.

I would recomend JHS to anybody, £35 is as already been said going to be the basic settings check over, set sag etc, go and ride it and come back and see what you think etc. A google search could easily save someone the £35 if they fancy have a fiddle themselves, but for someone less confident its nice to get the advice from the pro's.
