I had one of those moments today...

So having recently replaced my chain and sprocket I've gotten a small can of chain lube (Nice silver can with green stripy logo) to carry with me at all times, thrown in free by the nice garage people!

So I go down to get on the bike for my daily commute and decide to lube up first.
Open up my backpack and root around for the can, ahah! shake, spray.
Hmm ok nice and blue which I understand but boy it's kinda foamy.

I guess it's good because it will really get in there and get all over the chain.
Then I start thinking that it's still continuing to foam and is becoming something of a monster...and it will go everywhere as soon as I start riding, not so good...what kind of stupid idea was this!!.

Me being me even as alarm bells start ringing I carry on regardless until I wonder why on earth they also seem to have Scented the chain lube...it smells quite nice actually...almost like my...shaving....foam....oh....*look at can*
Ahh yes Gillete for Men....hmmmm that explains it...forgot I also put that in my backpack as I went to Germany last week and it's the same size/colour as the chain lube can.

Anyone know if Gillete shaving foam is any good as a chain lube substitute?

LOL! That is bad I think its the fact you kept spraying which makes it worse/funnier!

Lol it wasn't impressive looking enough that I thought to take a pic, wish I had though :(

Hmm did it pull? well I DID find myself in a crowd of 4 other bikes for most of the London portion of my ride and 2 of them were really chatty, sadly neither of the big burly guys were really my type

As for my spraying on, well at first I thought woah nice idea! this will really work it's way over the entire chain and really get in all the links etc and that it was some new idea similar to the dyed lube so you know which bits of chain you've alraedy done!

It wasn't until I was most of the way round and it was really startting to quite...puffy in places....that I paused and realised it also smelt quite strongly of *sigh* shaving foam.

Never mind that!
What's the chain lube like for shaving?

LOL that brought tears to my eyes, you plonker! As long as it hasn't damaged it, would make a good prank to store for future use muahaha

On a serious note, isn't shaving foam just soap? And doesn't soap dispel oil? Therefore you have probably just cleaned all of the oil out of your chain.

But then soap is also a lubricant?? Hence why it is used as shaving foam.

The science in that conundrum is beyond me I am afraid.

At least it smells nice though.

Absolute classic!!! love it!!! i cant see that there is anything in it that would cause damage to the chain.

Just a effin funny story!!!
