White is the worst colour for the 800 IMO, has to be the red or the grey, but if you insist on white

Oooo, tasty. I think the 800 looks nice in white, in a Star Wars kind of way.

When you get bored with it I'll look after it for you and of course I'll keep the battery charged by taking it for an occasional ride...

P.S. Bet it would be a bugger to keep clean.

nice bike but its the wrong model the pre vtec 800 is the one to get.honda rather lost the plot with the vtec model and going back to camchains was a step to far,so save up £1500-£2000 and get the better vfr800 f1 and for that money you could buy a low milage minter

I think it would suit you down to the ground Quiff, however, you only want it so it will match yours and Mandy's lids, leathers and boots, oh and dog

You're as bad as Luckypants, chopping and changing your Viffers, what is it about the colours that gives people itchy feet? :-D

 Guilty.

Looks ace Quiff! I hope you get it.

Really enjoyed the VFR I hired last year for the AR.
I quite liked the v-tec as well.
Don't know why everyone hates the v-tec models. Two honda techs told me neither of them has ever seen the valves out of adjustment on a VFR v-tec model at any mileage.
Quite possibly my next bike.

no we all no the vtec wil be ultra reliable,no one i think has said any different but the thing is they got it right the first time with the 800f1 and by changeing to the vtec and looseing the gear driven cams, and then haveing the vtec cutting in half way round a bend and what did they gain it pumps out about 3 less hp weighs more i believe, and is even more complicated for no gain ,and no dout those nice looking under seat exhausts make summer rideing for a pillion very hot on a long run,so if you want new and the second best get the vtec but if you want the best get the pre vtec 800f1 and this is the one that in years to come will be the one that will be the classic vfr honda that collectors will all want to own

Not quite, the FiW was the first one, then FiX, and they are not thought by those in the know to have got it right until the FiY (Brother in law is a bit of a Viffer freak and owns an FiY). The Fi1 that superseded it is the same bike but got some extra bits added, including stainless header pipes, which of course you would just add to Fi-Y as a mod when the originals rot.

FiY or Fi1 are the ones to have.

You are having a laugh, surely?

The 800i was a bloody awful abomination compared to the 750FS and FT that preceeded it. No-one liked the extra weight, no-one liked the primitive fuel injection, no-one liked the linked brakes (except Honda saddos who won't buy anything but Honda), no-one liked the styling, no-one liked the lack of excitement, no-one liked the price. I know of at least three 800i buyers who took theirs back at the first service and bought their traded in 750 back off the supplying dealers. A more horrible bike I can't think of... except anything made in USA.

The last of the 750s was a great bike, but the collectable VFR is the 750FJ and FK - the last of the twin-sided swingarm models, but with 17 inch wheels. Sportier than the later models, better built than the later models and lighter, fatser and better handling than the later models. I had one from new, and deeply regret trading it for a GSXR750L

just looked at the specs for the 750 compared to the 800i(98-01)and the 800 is up on hp about 108-110 hp,the 750 about 98-105,and the vtec about 107 hp,it all depends who figures you go by,and as to weight the 750 =209 dry and the 800i=208 dry,and looking at owner rewiews the 800i comes out on top,as for handling i dont find any problems but it might not be quite as good as the blade at say 120 mph+,ive had no problems with fuel injection,no flat spots revs to the red line and starts on the button even on a nearly flat batterie, and if you use the brake like on a normal set up you wouldnt know the difference and as to build quality after 13 years it still looks good,it might not be as sporty as a sv1000, i have other bikes to do that job but it is far more reliable than the sv,and as to price all new bikes cost a arm and a leg and i dont buy new i let someone else take the hit but i picked my almost mint low milage with almost fsh 98 vfr up for £1400,and as to styling everyone has ther own idea on what looks good

One could always opt for the 2011 Honda Crossrunner.
It's basicly a VFR with newly styled skins.
Personally not crazy about the adventure bike styling on a road bike .
Looks like very little wind protection as well.

It took am 11 plate VFR800 out on saturday for a test ride - its the mutts - my back and wrists hate it but I love it. Had 32 miles on the clock when I took it out!
Well tempted esp when I know that there are a few people looking specifically for the red/black Er6's

Have to agree with this. I had a VFR750FW which was a lovely thing, dyno'd at 97bhp with Wolf can and Dynojet kit. Brakes were a little weak by sports bike standards but a very good all-round package and there was no other 'all rounder' to touch it at the time.

When the 800Fs came out the 750 die hards were 800 haters. Now folks are saying the 800F is THE best VFR and hate the VTECs... probably the same 'my bike is the best' saddos who hated them when they owned 750s! I have ridden a few 800Fs and they are OK but the fuel injection is pretty basic, making it snatchy. Compared to the superb carburation of the 750 it was awful...

Linked brakes? You either liked them or not, but over time the linking bias has gone back to a more natural set up so that now most folks find them ok. The only observation I'd make on linked brakes is they tend to stand the bike up a bit and run it wide if you dab the rear brake mid corner as you get a touch of front as well, but as standard VFRs want to run wide anyway you hardly notice that effect!

The VTECs have a more sophisticated FI system that resolves many of the problems of the 800Fs, but can still be jerky on light throttle openings. (fix is easy, use the loud handle MORE :smt112) If set up properly, the jerkiness is cured and the VTEC transition is nice and smooth. I have no issue with the VTEC on either of the VTEC VFRs I have owned. I like the VTEC for the induction noise and the exhaust howl, don't make the bike any faster but sounds ace!

whats with all this jerfiness on light thottle opening, cos it dont sound like the 98 vfr i ride,i bought my vfr on a wim and not knowing much about them then i thought it was a carbed model coz of the leaver on the bar to make it tick over faster when cold, and couldnt tell any differance when rideing it,so if honda could improve on the fuel injection it would be like going from a new bmw to a RR or bently

That looks nice Ed, i do prefer the black tbh, but blue would be my 2nd choice.
After sitting on Petes at the NW6 weekend, i went to triumph with the intention of buying one, but after test riding it and the sprint i got on better with the sprint, both lovely bikes in fairness.
Long term i may have got on with it but im happy with the sprint :)
