Weathers looking decent this weekend, anyone up for a bimble ?

This is the last time I'm gonna ask cos I'm getting the feeling you don't wanna come out with me :(, nobody bothers in our section you lazy buggers ;)

Saturday is good for me. I am thinking meet at long itch and do a rideout around the cotswolds area?
Ill be on the GSXR as my Hyper is out of action. Needs to be proper good weather though as my tyres are very very track orientated.

Larger fuel tank warped and leaked fuel all over the wheel and tyre. So am awaiting a replacement tank and the wheel is off being repainted and then I gotta get a new set of tyres put on it.

The tank manufacturers have been fantastic and are sending me a brand new tank from the USA along with a new fuel pump O-ring. They were absolutely no quibbles, all I did was email them saying I suspected their tank was to blame.

The guy I bought it from in the UK has picked up the tab for repainting the wheel.

I am having to put new tyres on though, more for my piece of mind as the tyre went well funny although it seemed to sort itself out.

I bet you hadn't done many miles on them tyres either.

Are they sure that same problem isn't gonna happen on the replacement tank ? Bit of a weird thing to happen to a brand new tank.

Not many miles on those tyres but I hated them TBH grip was fine in the dry, in anything mildly damp they were rubbish.

It's the only instance where they have had an outright failure where fuel was full on pishing out. They are on their 3rd run of tanks and are assuring me they have got better which each run, they are also sending me a new O-ring which they reckon are much better than ducati standard items, they are also supplying a system where the fuel pump is held on by 6 bolts all the time rather than 3 when you take the cover off.

Google maps on my phone shows a weird route off your link chris, make sure we include the a422 to brackley, it's a good road if it isn't on there already :)

We can stop at On Yer Bike in Aylesbury for lunch if ya like or find somewhere en route in a village, I'm not bothered.

Phil I haven't included the A422 out of Stratford as it was going to take us south at the end of the day, can include it and then take the A423 back up to Long Itch?

I wasn't sure how long the ride was going to be but we have the option to head up the A361 and back again as it is a very nice road?

Alternatively I have modified the route to include both the A422 and the A361 and only adds 25 miles onto the ride.

My suggested route was only for you and I to get to the meeting point of the rideout, not for the rideout itself.

I don't mind meeting anywhere, or riding anywhere, but given that we are now talking Me, Mr Speirs, Rusty, G and Speedplay, all being East of the M1, maybe we should start over here somewhere

(dives in a trench before Phil starts shooting :lol: ).

Yeah, screw that if you are coming from North of Leicester Russ, to get to Long Itch from there you would just jump on the M69, and come round the Coventry bypass towards Baginton Airport.

I guess we could do that. Thing is over M'Hboro way is where myself and G ride all the time so that's why I fancied summat different :)

Depends on how Phil feels really as it's his suggestion.

I don't mind either way, I know a good loop taking in all the good roads but it isn't that long about 80 miles ish and can be done in a couple of hours, although there is the option of doing a few other little loops in the afternoon which will be good.

Ill draw up a provisional route for consideration.

Route looks ok, but the start and end point dont, its 90 miles + just to and from the start point :(

Considering i suggested it, i dont think i should be doing the most miles ;)
Its 75-90 mins of mway out of the day straight away along a boring mway.
Tbh im not keen on half my rideout miles being mways and there aint no other quick way to get over there, i accept though, 5 of you dont wanna travel the other way the same distance.
Bloody in breds from over there, better roads west than east , you should move :cool:

I have rode some of the roads that way yes, I don't venture over that way that much tbh, normally when I do it's on my DRZ.

Not bothered about meeting at long itch, can meet anywhere really, just didn't want that amount of mway miles.
I hadn't even thought of a route etc, just tested the water to see who was gonna venture out.
What time we all thinking of meeting?, I especially don't wanna travel that distance if were not meeting until 11 or 12.
I prefer to go out earlier and get back earlier.

It's not that far from Northampton to Long Itch actually, because it is all main roads past Daventry.

For me there is no direct way to get to Long Itch, somebody put Rugby in the way! The only fast route is M6 to junction 2 then past Coventry. Would be easier if you could join the M1 going South from the A14, or the M45 going southbound M1, then I could do it in 35 minutes, but you can't do either.

Like I said I'm not bothered where we meet though, the route I have found to Long Itch is on bestbikingroads.com, and a 45 minute to 1 hour journey is a walk in the park when you do 35-40,000 miles a year.

Not sure the roads are better West than East though Phil, there are some corkers over here, with less traffic so long as you stay away from 'Northlondonshire' and just that little bit tighter and twistier. Draw a shape out of straight lines line from Leicester, to Lincoln, to Norwich, to Colchester and straight back to Leicester, and you have hundreds of square miles of sparsely populated countryside full of twisties to play on.

I personally don't like narrow, twisty, blind corners much, too many cars cutting corners etc.
The wider A roads are my preference tbh and what I consider 'good' roads.

I wouldn't enjoy those country lanes on the Daytona either, mainly because they are too bumpy and are not comfortable on a road bike.

I was thinking more of the likes of the Market Harborough to Uppingham road, countryside B roads,

you can see on streetview, it's wide enough for two trucks to pass, and the surface is not as bumpy as a country lane, but it's not wide enough to fit on the SLOW lettering without going over the side line. And of course where you have a lesser population, you have less traffic. That's my favourite type of road in the summer and that's what I mean by tighter and twistier. I winter I prefer the wide A roads because the tighter ones tend to be covered in mud.

That said I've never been a fan of doing 90-100+ mph on the road like people do down the A423 from the Long Itch, maybe why I prefer smaller roads, you can get the thrill without the speed.

Do my route to the Long Itch in reverse, taking us back to Husbands Bosworth and then Market Harborough, the route is recommended by bestbikingroads.com
Do Mr Spiers Eastern Route either clockwise or anti-clockwise depending on how we are doing for time
Arrive in Melton Mowbray for lunch time, have a Pork Pie and meet Rusty
Continue Mr Speirs eastern route in whichever direction we were taking

Who is going to lead? (not me, my fast days are over, I crashed once too often and grew up)

It takes Phil a long way from home, but at least we'll all be coming to meet him half way in the morning and I know he loves Long Itch breakfast! ;-)

(PS: I'd be riding 50 mins purely for the social side of breakfast then turning, round and going back exactly the same way!)

I can lend you an XT600 so long as your covered to ride other bikes. It's slow, it's on dual purpose tyres, and it may get you tugged by the coppers for the noise it makes, but it's got two wheels and it goes.

Provisionally the plan is to meet at Long Itch at 10am. Get some breakfast and have a natter and leave to head to M'Hboro. I expect we'll leave Long Itch at around 11am maybe you could get there for then as we are heading away from Warwick after then.

It's not even that Dave it's only 80 miles and motorway or fast A road all the way after you've wound your way up to the M404, join the M40 at High Wycombe and open the taps. You could average 65-70mph easy, which is 1hr 15. You could do it in an hour on a bike if you want to be rebellious!

Have Brekkie
Do my route to the Long Itch in reverse, taking us back to Husbands Bosworth and then Market Harborough, the route is recommended by bestbikingroads.com
Do Mr Spiers Eastern Route either clockwise or anti-clockwise depending on how we are doing for time
Arrive in Melton Mowbray for lunch time, have a Pork Pie and meet Rusty
Continue Mr Speirs eastern route in whichever direction we were taking

Who is going to lead? (not me, my fast days are over, I crashed once too often and grew up)

It takes Phil a long way from home, but at least we'll all be coming to meet him half way in the morning and I know he loves Long Itch breakfast! ;-)

(PS: I'd be riding 50 mins purely for the social side of breakfast then turning, round and going back exactly the same way!)
