View Full Version : Stuff lost in the mail...what can I do?
I brought some parts for my bike off another forum and they haven't turned up. I've contacted the guy and he has shown me all the receipts and stuff. He sent other parts to other people and they have all been received, so i think he is genuine. He has been really open with all the information so I have nothing to doubt.
What can I do to trace this, or make a claim? It was sent first class, not recorded and I paid via PayPal.
What are my options?
Thanks,
Scoobs.

there's your problem right there
from my knowledge of post at work, unless its recorded or special delivery you cant make a claim. however i'd put it in mr mans court and tell him its his duty to get the goods you bought to you, not the other way round
oh, and you bought them, you didnt brought them

I believe he would have to initiate any claim against lost items but with first class I'm not sure what cover you have. you can find out on the royal mail website but IIRC responsibility rests with the sender.

Try contacting the post office depot. They've found things for me that haven't been delivered on a couple of occasions.

I used to work with Royal Mail so should be able to shed some light here.
Special Delivery (Blue Stickers with barcode) are insured and theyre guaranteed by 1pm the next day, theyre the upmost priority stuff. Theyre tracked by barcode and if one is lost, god help the poor sod who lost it.
Recorded Signed For Delivery (Orange Stickers with barcode) are tracked by barcode. As long as theyre scanned in and out of offices, they know where they are. But they do go missing, seen it happen in the office, never turned up, very angry customer. Cant remember about insurance on these.
First Class is just a faster send than your normal Second Class, nothing hugely special apart from it has slightly higher priority and costs more.
There is nothing you can do to trace it. Royal Mail have simply made a mistake somewhere. Either its still winging its way to you and will turn up soon or its lost somewhere. Go down to your local Delivery Office and ask about it in there. The place you go to pick up parcels if you were out and they couldnt deliver it. Take some ID with you aswell. If its gone, its gone, there is sod all you can do about it. I think anyway, maybe check Royal Mail website. But go to your Delivery Office and hope for the best.

anything first class is insured for £37 BUT you need proof of postage..

+1, I've had to make a claim before. Proof of postage and proof of value, plus Royal Mail's claim form from their website.
But, as mentioned by others, check at the delivery office first. I've had parcels sitting down there when no card has been put through the door.

i don't think you can claim. it will need to be the seller who has all the original receipts etc
It's finally turned up....that's nearly 2 weeks after posting. Good news, but how rubbish is that???

Stuff usually turns up in the end, sadly the post office is not the service it used to be :( its all about the money now and not that reliable delivery service we all once knew.
next time you could try citylink or ups their both very good couriers.

Good to hear it's made it. .
I'm still waiting for a hugger that I bought on 2nd march! It's taking so long I've not even got the bike anymore!!
